There’s a difference between an assault weapons ban on new sales and coming to take people’s guns away that they currently own and purchased legally. Dems have made an effort to claim they are not for the latter despite Rs saying they are. He just undermined that.
The Republican Party just said a collective "Thank you, Jesus!" when O'Rourke said that statement. They can now say, with some nationally televised truth, "See, we warned you all along."
