No, it's them. People call Bernie a socialist because he calls himself one. People call AOC a socialist because she calls herself one.
People listen to simpletons like AOC and Bernie and that's the problem.
As to calling them "communist", the goal of socialism is communism, so any true socialist is a communist.
For the most part though most people who call themselves socialists these days are merely feeble minded capitalists who don't know enough to know that they aren't really socialists.
Bernie and AOC can call themselves martians, or elves, or whatever, but that does not make them what they say. It's just a blah-blah without understanding anything.

Right, just like Elizabeth Warren called herself native American for nearly her whole life till that lie got busted..... but much like that situation, people tend to believe what you tell them about yourself.
When AOC and Bernie say they are socialists, most will take them at their word. Now sure you and I know that they are really just idiots, but most won't pay attention for long enough to know

Not to mention that you are mixing political parties with the actual system definitions. You see, "Democratic party" does not mean they employ democracy, as well as "Republican party" does not mean they actually support republic ideals.
You edited this and I still don't know what you're talking about.
You can educate me or at least send me a link from a Google search.
(shrug) You are incorrect in equating socialism and statism. Lookup definitions of both.
Since nobody here bothers to actually read actual definitions, here we go.
Let's start with the source that nobody actually value, but we are just starting to dig: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialism
Ok, what it says? The very first sentence is:
Quote:
Socialism is a range of economic and social systems characterised by social ownership of the means of production and workers' self-management,[10] as well as the political theories and movements associated with them.
Hmm, do you see anything about government here? Apparently not.
Let's go further. What dictionary tells us?
The most neutral and closest to the original source is Britannica:
Socialism, social and economic doctrine that calls for public rather than private ownership or control of property and natural resources.
Of course, they conveniently shortened "property of the means of production" to just "property", which immediately triggers the most people. Yes, down in the article they explain further, but the first impression is first impression, right? Anyway, even there you would not see a single word about the government.
To summarize: socialism is a form of a society organization where the only acceptable property form for the means of production is a public one. Pay attention: not any property, but just means of production. That's it. That's all. Keep in mind, by "public" it means not even the whole society, but just set of people who are actually using those means of production.
To those who can barely read: do you know Publix or Hy-Vee stores? Well, they say they are "employee-owned". Let's assume that's actually a true statement. It means, they are a socialist companies. Now pretend that any company should be employee-owned. That's it. That is a socialism, as pure as it could be.
Did you see anything about government, or subsidies, or anything like that? Nope.
Government, subsidies etc appear when we are talking about statism. Do you understand that two different words exist for two different concepts? For example, late Soviet Union (starting circa 1954) was a statism, not a socialism. Even earlier it was a mix of socialism and statism; but it never was "just" a socialism. Actually, socialism never existed anywhere as the main (not to say only) form of the society.
Now compare this with what Bernie and AOC want. How you can call that a "socialism"?
They just want to redistribute goods/money without changing anything, thinking they appear from the thin air. That's not even a statism; it's pure dumb stupidity.

Good lord.
I gotta stop asking questions on this forum.
The answers scare me more than the original posts.

SMH
Carry on. I can't combat this level of insanity.
(sigh) Why I'm not surprised? Of course you can continue to talk to the voices in your head about meaning of the words, and invent new meanings every minute, but when you communicate with people, you just have to use same definitions, otherwise you are discussing space flight in terms of plant gardening.
I understand that you want the "socialism" to be as bad as possible without even understanding what it is - you've been taught and brainwashed that way. Alas, world is more complicated. But, keep confusing things - its a free country (or so we've been told).
Just one question for you: power in China belongs to the "Communist party". What state system do they have?
a) communism
b) socialism
c) statism
d) capitalism
e) something else
I'm pretty sure you would be able to even give some arguments to the answer, right?

What, you saw too many new words? Can't help you with that. Once again - try Google. It's a good tool.
