Well, I live near the baylands, which is a great place for birdwatching. But yeah, it's an early morning activity, and the people who do that tend to be older and whiter. I might take that up as I'm older, I'm a morning person, but I'm not white.

I’m fascinated by birds myself. I have a few feeders in my backyard, and I put them up so that birds can eat without being terrorized by the cats running around here.
But I don’t know about bird watching. Maybe when I’m older and not as mobile.
Reading that list, to me it's more like a guide to a Black man's survival in America. Being a Black man, I can relate to having to prove "Hey, I'm not a threat".
That gave me a though. Can you see some young Black or Hispanics with binoculars on their faces, talking about they only looking for a Red Cardinal - how long before the cops show up asking if the casing the place or peeping toms.?

The only bird watching I've ever really enjoyed include:
-Seeing 500 eagles in one gathering along the mississippi one year.
-Seeing a turkey fly across the interstate....barely missing out on giving a Trucker a concussion.
-Hearing the great horned owls in my neighborhood on summer nights.
I always figured black people were too busy playing polo, fox hunting and fencing to have much time for bird watching.

That’s actually the case for 99.5% of the total population. I don’t know a single ornithologist unless you wanna count me since I’m a fanatical fan of Charlie ‘Bird’ Parker as well as a fanatical fan of Donald Byrd.

Yeah, when the ice forms up they cluster at the various dams along the river, sometimes as far south as close to St. Louis.
My father saw as many as 700.
They literally cram the trees like you would see sparrows or black birds.
Oh dang....I forgot the best one. Thigh deep in the gulf of mexico fishing off the beach....ssssssssplasssh...big sea eagle 15 feet away dove and grabbed a 15 inch fish in it's talons and was just sitting in the water looking at me and vice versa for about 10 seconds. He must have been waiting for it to stop fighting and get a better grip. He then just flew up out of the water with his fish and took over in-land.
