Texas is getting purple, because between the AA/Hispanic poor there, and the liberal educated attracted by sunbelt jobs to their cities, their cities are leaning more Democrat. So in order to suppress Democrat vote (because Democrats are more likely to protect their health by voting remotely), Texas has decreed that drop boxes be limited to ONE per county. As of now, this order is being upheld by federal judge (gee, I wonder if the judge is Republican?)

So my kid just asked, should I do mail in or vote in person? I looked up his county (Salt Lake County, Utah). Utah is heavily Republican. And guess what? There are TWENTY official drop boxes in just Salt Lake County, alone.

Yes I know the GOP limiting drop offs to 1 per county is purely political. This thread is misleading.

Apparently if you want, there are 100 locations you can go vote right now just in Harris County TX.

That does seem unreasonable. I would have thought each township would have a drop box. Aren’t votes counted at the township level, not county level? I live in a city, so we drop our ballots off at city hall.

The Federal Circuit Court of Appeals confirmed that .Texas State Election LAW provisions will be followed. These are not new State LAWS, they have been in place for years.

Utah has their own State Election Laws and whoever they are should be followed.
The only issues that should be discussed are when a State, County or City attempts CHANGE Election LAW right before an Election for Political gain.

there's one or more threads on Texas' mail-in/absentee ballots and the ability to drop them off.

The states all sell their individual voting practices/laws. Salt Lake City is ... still not in Texas.

Most states don't have townships.

It used to be absentee voting required an excuse. Then you voted only on election day.

Now you have 3 weeks of early voting, no excuse needed absentee voting and mailboxes all over the place. Why do you need dropboxes that can be stolen and/or stuffed?

If you claim this is an issue, you are a) a paid poster; b) a troll; c) a criminal who wants to manipulate elections; or d) a desperately gullible person who needs to learn to think for themselves.

Did something happen on this since Saturday? The last action I know of was on Friday, when a federal judge granted an injunction blocking the one box per county thing. I just did a cursory search to see if anything new has happened, but didn't find anything.

It's being appealed to the 5th Circuit, but afaik what you wrote isn't currently correct. In fact, the opposite is true.

Quote:
On Saturday, Paxton filed an emergency motion to block a federal judge's preliminary injunction, granted on Friday, that bars the enforcement of Abbott's Oct. 1 order limiting ballot drop-off locations to one per county. Paxton's office said his motion is pending appeal in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Aren't there about 4 million in the Houston metro? And only one drop off box? The line will be unbelievable.

The GOP has mastered Voter suppression. How else would they win elections?
