lol.

I was thinking about a couple of rednecks out around the campfire wondering which one of their friends gave COVID to the deer.

No, this virus is here to stay, it will continue to mutate, and the best thing to do is work on effective treatments, not hopeless vaccines. The wildlife populations are too large of a reservoir for it to survive and spread in for us to ever eliminate it.

I agree. This is something we need to treat and live with. It simply can't be vaccinated away. The writing is on the wall.

The list of animals which have been infected includes:

big cats in captivity
domestic cats
dogs
ferrets
fruit bats
mink
non-human primates
pangolins
pigs
raccoon dogs
rodents
white-tailed deer

Racoon dogs?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

So that mean then Elmer Fudd and Donald Duck* would go for deer hunting?

*There was a short titled "No Hunting"(1955) featuring Donald Duck.

There is not - and never was - the hope that the virus would be completely eradicated. The idea that it's "here to stay" has been accepted since just about the very beginning.

All we're trying to do with the vaccine is limit the amount of SIMULTANEOUS cases in any local area, so as not to over-burden the health care system. That's it - and that's it, world-wide.

Lombardi, NYC, Madrid - and others - have shown what can happen when the conditions are superb for COVID - and it ain't good. But if 70-80% of NYC were vaccinated (at the time) then the outcome would have been hugely different.

Lots of folks have a misunderstanding about what the goal is here - and I don't blame ya, very few media outlet are helping you. Their job is to be clickbait - not dispense unaltered useful truth. That went out of fashion 30 years ago.

It is ONLY the mere threat of overwhelming a single hospital that makes COVID so dangerous. Not the overwhelming - but the mere THREAT of overwhelming. Once that threat is put to bed - you will be mainly living life as normal.

The deer certainly know this. The deer hospitals are mostly empty - and invisible - so I figure they're doing OK. I have seen no deer in masks, seen no angry deer on airplanes, and fawns everywhere seem fine, even though they can't get vaccinated yet. Turns out - there are no 80 year old dear, so pretty much none of them died of COVID. Most of the dead ones had lead poisoning.

We wouldn’t need mass vaccination if there was an effort to expand healthcare capacity.

There are more than enough buildings that could be converted into additional hospitals. I see closed down Sears and Kmarts all over as one example. These couldn’t be converted. There are also plenty of people that are smart enough that could be trained in basic care. We wouldn’t have needed to “flatten the curve” if we expanded our capacity for care for individuals. This could have been done in mid 2020 with little problems.

and before anyone says how much money would be wasted. We already have a large portion of the population that spends their time preparing for and dealing with emergencies, it’s called the military.

But you need trained, specialized staff. Where are you getting those from since existing hospitals already have staff shortages. Its not just about the physical plant.

I have been a patient care technician and have been a physician assistant now for 10 years. Plenty of basic care can be done with minimal training.

Hospitals have staff shortages because we try to make healthcare market based and for profit. It doesn’t work that way anywhere else in the world.

That would be lovely, he should do it right after fires his entire administration and resigns.
