(Bloomberg) -- Video of the beating to death of a dog in China whose owner was in quarantine has shocked the nation and terrified pet owners over how far the government might go to realize its goal of zero Covid.
The corgi, Chaofen, was seen being clubbed by government workers in protective gear after its owner had contact with a Covid-19 patient and was sent into isolation. The video was captured by a camera in the owner’s home. The dog ran into another room after being struck on the head with a metal rod.
The owner, identified in news reports as Ms. Fu, said afterward that Chaofen had died, and that the pets of some of her neighbors suffered the same fate.
Bloomberg is very anti-Chinese, so one has to be careful, most of their article are very biased.

It says in the link that pets are treated differently in different places, in some places people can take their pets with them into isolation, in others not. So, obviously it is not a federal policy.
While not about pets, the city of Lisbon has also gotten under fire recently because city employees were filmed as they lured doves into traps and made them disappear.

“We found that 80% of the sampled deer in December were positive for SARS-CoV-2, which proportionally represents about a 50-fold greater burden of positivity than what was reported at the peak of infection in humans at the time,” said Kuchipudi. “The number of SARS-CoV-2 positive deer increased over the period from April to December 2020, with the greatest increases coinciding with the peak of deer hunting season last year.”

What does it mean? If you can smell fresh or stale air or any other smells like fresh coffee from another room - you may be able to inhale the virus.

The deer won't stand for it. They are not as much sheep as most people are. They will not allow poison to be injected into them. They will simply start walking out in front of cars in suicide protests. Just wait. You'll see.
I plan to vaccinate a few after Thanksgiving! And I'm pretty sure the type of vaccination I inject them with will stop them from ever getting covid, as well as any other diseases.
Deer often travel in herds and touch noses, making transmission a concern.
So federal scientists tested blood samples of wild deer in Illinois, Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania. They eventually tested 624 samples, finding that about 40 percent of samples that were collected last year had antibodies that suggested past infection.
The latest studies provide evidence of active and recent infection.
In the peer-reviewed Ohio State University study, 35.8 percent of 360 free-ranging deer tested positive through nasal swabs. The researchers were able to culture the virus for two samples, meaning they could grow live virus.
I hadn't heard about this until last night when a virologist friend of mine when he sent this to me:

Unfortunately the increase in case rates in Ohio appear to still be coupled with hospitalization and mortality. In Florida they are not. This may indicate that we are still dealing with delta. Add in omicron and we have a real problem in the next couple weeks.
It's not just deer....over 30 mammal species have caught and tested for covid.
This virus adapts to any mammal it seems.
