It's hilarious watching the conservatives try to come up any other blame or cause they can make up for these mass shootings in their desperate attempt to avoid dealing with the one and only obvious one: Easy access to firearms in a society where they are protected as a "right."
More people died in chicago over the weekend from shootings excluding the publicized shooting, than died from the publicized shooting. Spare a thought for those as well as the one particular incident you want to fixate on. Absolute madness that even a mass shooting can’t compare to day to day Chicago life

Normal people generally don't have a desire to kill others.

And this, too, is a deflection from the one and obvious cause for all these shootings: Easy access to firearms in a society where they are protected as a "right." If you think that is any less true for gangland shootings in Chicago than for mass shootings in Highland Park, then you're kidding yourself.
here's the big red flag:
3. they become interested in violence of some sort, maybe in video games, or certain news stories, online vids
the final red flag:
4. they start to write or post text or videos that suggest violence, shooting, death, etc
When people see #4 is when some will say something, even alert authorities. But what they need at this point is mental health service asap. And to check if meds are the cause.
I did see a list years ago of shootings and yes psychotropic where involved in a lot of the incidents. There's a book out about this too I think.

I agree with all but part of #4. Mentally healthy young people aren't generally put on antidepressants. It is more logical to see whether they were taking antidepressants and if so, what the need was. I.e. why they were depressed, which is more likely what drove them to extremes (mental illness that didn't respond to therapies).
Millions of people have taken SSRI's without going on killing sprees. I hope you are not suggesting that effective medications be taken away from the patients that receive a benefit.

We've had that right for hundreds of years.
You have a right to keep and bear arms.
You don't have a right to commit murder with them.
So.... what's changed lately?
Kids weren't committing mass shootings in the 80's when I went to school.
And we had guns right in the schools too ...
Riflery teams, hunters safety classes.....
Kids riding to school with hunting rifles on racks in the back of their trucks......
Nobody freaked out.
Nobody shot anyone.
Why was that?
