I can't hardly see the right "winning", whatever that exactly means.

The left owns just about every institution, has for years, been indoctrinating young people with anti-America BS and have been chipping away at the foundational structures of the nation for decades now. These people are moving into society into positions of power.

I could go on with a few others, but I'm lazy today.

It's just a matter of time as older people die off.

The right has control of the most important institution of all: religion.

Religions are legally allowed to brainwash children with their ideologies from a young age. That’s massively powerful. “Give me a child until he is age seven, and I will give you the man.” The Left has nothing even remotely as powerful for shaping the future.

Religion was the decisive factor in forming the current Supreme Court and overturning Roe v. Wade.

Religion has been on a steep decline for many yrs now.

If you really truly think religion had anything to do with Roe, you're painfully misinformed. It should been a states rights issue to begin with, never should have passed. RBG herself has expressed similar statements. She's nobody's right wing bible thumper.

Exactly. Not sure why some don't understand the problems, division, etc, that we have now were put in motion during George W. Bush's administration. It's gotten much worse since. It is both sides not just one and is due to many corrupt and bad politicians. Also cable News and Social Media.

Each Election from 2000 the losing sides have had a meltdown of epic proportions (with each one being bigger than the last) and then sought revenge and became more paranoid. From 2008 the losing side started flat out refusing to work with the other side because they could not handle that they lost. Both parties have gotten more extreme as a whole since 2010 (worsening since 2016) which has caused the standstill in our government and partisanship we are witnessing now. . It is time people and politicians in the Moderate faction of both (or what is left of them) take their parties back.

No one is winning. We are all losing.

The reasons are simple:
1) the Right has a higher birth rate
2) the Right has a higher rate of gun ownership

For those two reasons, the Right will win in the long run.

Number (1) should be obvious: higher birth rates mean more future right wingers than left wingers.

Number (2) should be obvious as well: if there ever is some kind of Civil War between the Right and Left, the Right is far more likely to win since they have most of the guns.

The Left often talks about how they are “on the right side of history” but I have my doubts. The Left-wing side is very self-limiting, for the two reasons above.

Anyone disagree? Is there a way the Left can win, despite the natural advantage on the Right?

Uh, why do you think the dems want so many illegals into the country?

When you rob Peter to pay Paul and then convince Paul that Peter is the source of all his problems.....

You will always have the support of Paul.

Throw in the advances in technology and automation and there's going to be an awful lot of people with nothing to do but expect to get paid simply by virtue of their own existence.

When you rob Peter AND Paul to pay David, Peter AND Paul will vote for you every time!

Bwahaha! You think the military and police won't do what their leaders tell them? Just a sec until I stop laughing. I was in the 82nd Airborne. The military and police will do as they are told. They always have. Kent state, Waco, Watts, My Lai, mining strikes, labor disputes, Katrina - they don't care.

Patton himself had american vets in the Bonus Army killed right in Washington DC, under Douglas MacArthur's orders, because those WWI vets, including my grandfather were commie "Reds." How dare they ask to get paid. Then there's the civil war - you think Americans won't gleefully kill their brethern? Think again. Remember the MOVE massacre in '85 - police have NO PROBLEM dropping aerial firebombs on you if you dissent.

Heck we already kill each other tens of thousands of times a year, and police rack up a few hundred bodies themselves.

Police and military will ALWAYS protect their paycheck and their family and their "tribe." They have, and will have absolutely no qualms about killing you and burning your house down. They do it all the time.

And no I'm not some liberal democrat cop hater - but I've seen the same thing around the world, the police and military are not the friends of the People. With few exceptions they act as an occupying force with rights far exceeding those of the common man. ESPECIALLY here in the US, they are a separate class above the rest of us and the right wing, extremist Supreme Court has given them nearly unlimited "qualified immunity" to commit atrocities without repercussions.

Yeah, they are good at incarceration too. Remember Manzanar? The American govt / military/ police have no problem incarcerating tens of thousands of Americans for no valid or legal reason. Even hundreds of thousands if necessary - heck we already imprison 2 million people, largely for minor drug use charges.

And if there is one thing Americans are good at, it is killing each other. I'd hazard a guess that over the past 230 years we have killed each other more than in all our foreign wars combined.

So - NOBODY is going to "win." They only way anybody wins is to put all this animosity and hatred aside and work together, for a change. Our parents did great things in the 50's and 60's, then we screwed it all up. We can fix it if you want, but it will take cooperation, and the removal of extremists in govt offices, and installing moderates willing to cooperate toward tge common good, of all.

Even worse what they've done in Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and the types of places that democratic socialists (which are different from socialists) actually live!

I, like you, am left of center, and frankly the Democrats have been disappointing me for years, culminating with their refusal to stand behind Bernie. (Off topic, but they should've known Hilary had too much baggage.

I didn't like Obama bailing out the banks, rather than the mortgage holders. And as for the culture wars that BOTH sides are playing at: only idiots concern themselves with their genitals or what others are doing with theirs. I don't care one whit about pronouns.

That said, to your points:

1. It isn't a given that those births are going to be conservative. Many of us, in my observation, born to conservative families tend to take a more liberal view of life. The conservative life is based on history. If you don't believe me, start watching SCOTUS. Youth tends to think in terms of future. Besides, the conservative reality is largely a construct without foundation. I'm watching TX with their onerous tight-fisted reins on their female population. That's a state heading for a fall.

2. Well, look how that worked for Waco. Joking aside, much of the extreme right at this point is being supported by anarchists. As far as I understand it, they've been the muscle behind the conservatives, and THEY are the ones with the guns. They are not interested in living under a tight-fisted regime either. They may be the downfall of the conservative AND the liberals if we don't learn to respect each other and work to preserve our democracy.

Most of the conservative cranks I read on C-D are pretty big talkers here. They remind me of the good ol' boys I grew up with in the rural Midwest. Lots of talk and jeering, but take away their beers and show them a bit of authority and they are "Yessir, no sir, how high do I jump sir?"

Finally, the really big money behind all the shenanigans isn't interested in politics of any kind -- they donate to both. It's their way of keeping the low-life busy with the flashy things while they rake in the money, and the money of the future isn't going to be gained with history.
