Is the idea of fighting North Macedonia spooky to Russia? No. Is Finland, individually? No. Is US + UK + Norway + Italy + North Macedonia + Turkey + Germany + + Finland + Sweden + Estonia + Poland, etc, etc, spooky to Russia? Yes, or they wouldn't be behaving the way they are now.
At best its an intimidation tactic against RU. If someone cant fight you, then you can do what you want to him.

You do realize that's one of the points? To intimidate Russia into NOT invading NATO members?

If Article 5 is invoked, NATO can fight.

whatever it takes to get rid of Putin, I'm all for it..and although this alone won't do it, it's a step in the right direction, and if you don't think so, you are on the wrong side of history here..

If you're saying the expansion of NATO over the last 3 decades is a major factor that drove Putin to invade Ukraine, I'd agree.

Russia is all tensed-up because of what is going-on at its border, that is a big part of why the Russia-Ukraine dustup is going on.

So Sweden and Finland want to join NATO, and have the US, I mean NATO, fight Russia when they react to another threat on their border.

If the US was not in NATO, I strongly suspect Sweden and Finland would not be making this move.

Do you think Neville Chamberlain was right? He made sure not to goad Germany, right?

NATO would be more necessary than ever without a US presence, especially with that war criminal Putin in power in Russia. Finland and Sweden would be crazy not to join a permanent alliance in the face of that threat.

This is why Putin has been backing nationalist movements all over Europe. Putin was probably hoping Hungary and Poland would withdraw from NATO, but it doesn't look like they are going to do so. Of course, weakening NATO is why Putin worked so hard to get Trump installed as POTUS.

Trump knew this, and attacked NATO not long after he took office and continually thereafter. Trump has also recently admitted that he knew Putin coveted Ukraine years ago. Such was the level of confidence Putin and Trump had in one another.

Just before Putin did attack Ukraine in 2022, Trump praised him.

And as soon as the news came across that the invasion was on, Trump praised Putin again ...

Should he become president again, I have no doubt that Trump would try to pull the USA out of NATO.

On the other hand, the USA and other NATO members are NOT helping Ukraine as NATO, but as sovereign states, which they are free to do. Many NATO countries are not helping Ukraine much and some not at all. Each nation doing so on it's own volition.

Withdrawing from NATO would not preclude the USA from helping Ukraine. There are several countries outside of NATO which are helping Ukraine quite a lot.
