Did it ever occur to you and people who think like you that if everyone followed the rules and stopped trying to take write offs and hide income, then there wouldn't be a need to audit? Why should I have to make up for the tax cheats?
Why should some people pay a higher percentage of their income taxes while others pay nothing at all?
Nope -- they are going after people who aren't paying the tax they should
That would be the wealthiest Americans, but the IRS always seems to go after poor people first. Poor people don’t have the money to give back to the government or the money to hire lawyers to fight audits. Yet, democrats always seem to advocate for the iRS. The very IRS which goes after their own constituents
With less folks paying federal taxes, Dems gotta try to find more money for the free stuff folks. They finally figured out printing and borrowing money isn’t sustainable.
Do you know how much money was printed and borrowed under Trump?
Either way, the only money they will find is from people who didn't pay the taxes they owe. It's crazy how worked up some of you guys are over the potential of getting more money for our government from tax cheats.
McALLEN, Texas (Border Report) — The massive Fiscal Year 2022 spending bill approved by Congress included an additional $100 million for U.S. Customs and Border Protection to hire 800 new Border Patrol personnel, U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar told Border Report on Monday. The agency would be fully funded to hire 19,555 Border Patrol agents, said Cuellar, who is vice chairman of the House Homeland Security Appropriations Committee. In addition, funding also would be used to allow Border Patrol to pursue college educations, to supply on-sight mental health counselors for agents and to help Border Patrol families with childcare services. “We’re trying to provide Border Patrol not only the moral support but the actual funding to hire more people,” Cuellar said.

That was fiscal year '22 which is coming to a close in September. The $100 million they received to hire 800 agents is peanuts compared to the $80 billion earmarked for the IRS' to hire 87K new agents.

Wow 100 million for an additional 800 agents for a 1200 miles long border with literally hundreds of thousands of migrants and drug smugglers trying to illegally enter against the 80 billion to the IRS. I guess I'm mistaken about Democrats priorities Lol
I swear some of you guys have a persecution complex bigger than the solar system. If these agents are actually hired they might be working for a GOP president who picks the person who runs the IRS.
Fraud is fought with both preventive and detective strategies.
Again, if one is not a cheat, there is nothing to be concerned with, here.
Some of the posts to this thread come off as pro tax cheat.
Since 3/4 of IRS audits are against people earning under $200,000, that's over 65,000 more agents that will be auditing us.
You are right, historically the IRS has pursued the 'easy' cases of fraud. The ones that don't take many man hours or other resrouces to investigate....and that represents the peole with basic tax forms with a W2 tracking their taxes.
And the IRS (I provided a link earlier) wrote about this and presented an argument that they need more resources (people) to pursue the bigger tax evaders.
ALL of you repeating the historical failings of the IRS in pursuing all tax criminals are in fact helping to make the argument, the IRS is understaffed to go after the bigger and more complicated cases.
