That's Fluid Intelligence.

Crystallized Intelligence is the accumulation of knowledge, facts, and skills that are acquired throughout one's life.

Crystallized intelligence is influenced by environment/learning/education, and therefore can be somewhat improved over time.

Fluid Intelligence is the ability to reason and think flexibly, solve new problems, use logic in new situations, and identify patterns. It's a marker of the ability to reason intelligently and to process and learn new things on a conceptual level (not just rote memory).

Fluid intelligence is a lot less likely to improve as it's innate, not acquired, and actually tends to decline in old age.

One can have a very high intelligence level in one or the other, not necessarily both, though having a high Fluid Intelligence level frequently elevates one's Crystallized Intelligence level, as well.

And yes... societies, especially here in the US, are birthing less children with a high level of innate intelligence.

Bet if someone could research IQs in any given university /college compared to a few prisons, It would be interesting. Though many obtuse losers in prison, many used their wits and intelligence until they slipped up. Obtuse losers also enrolled in Columbia as seen on TV.
What, the protests?

Nah dawg. Protests happened during the Vietnam and Iraq wars and they were right on both of those.
Now they're right on the Gaza genocide.
The common denominator? War and the MICC.

Technology became a crutch and replaced thinking, reading, writing, etc.

Don't forget despite what science deniers on the left say, IQ is largely genetic by the time one reaches adulthood.

Our society disincentivizes smart women from having kids and they account for 3/4ths of the known IQ genes as they are all found on the X chromosome. We also incentivize low IQ people to have kids.

We also let people in to the country not based on skills, which often correlates at least loosely to IQ like some countries. Canada cares more about skills than we do in immigration. The immigrants we get legally from Africa, Asia, and Europe tend to have decent skills and IQ, but a porous border allows anyone to meander in and it is too often not that type.

I doubt IQ is falling with time progressing and humans advancing in general. In the past ( I will speculate) most testing was geared at the notably intelligent to rank them. I doubt much testing was employed to distinguish the slower folks as to idiot, moron, or imbecile, because why bother. Now, if more testing is being performed per capita then most likely it is bringing in more of the lower folds that were previously less represented. Like increased testing in most venues.

So are you proposing an IQ/Intelligence test to get into the country? Or, going further, are you proposing a mandatory IQ test for everyone in the country? If someone doesn't pass, ship them off to Mexico? Your statements appear to indicate that having a high IQ is an appropriate standard for having status in the US.

That is an interesting point with some merit, but it ignores the genetic aspect of IQ.

And the human race isn't always advancing, even though it usually does.

As a teacher I see outright science denying being taught in schools in the name of feelings. I see teachers emphasizing that there is no singular truth and feelings make it a truth. I think true deep critical thinking is being reduced to tweets, soundbites, and feelings.

It is falling. That's a documented fact. It's known as the Reverse Flynn Effect. Yes, each subsequent American generation IS getting dumber.

Quote:
"Americans’ IQ scores are trending in a downward direction. In fact, they’ve been falling for over a decade.

According to a press release, in studying intelligence testing data from 2006 to 2018, Northwestern University researchers noticed that test scores in three out of four “cognitive domains” were going down. This is the first time we’ve seen a consistent negative slope for these testing categories, providing tangible evidence of what is known as the “Reverse Flynn Effect.”

...The data showed drops in logic and vocabulary (known as verbal reasoning), visual problem solving and analogies (known as matrix reasoning), and computational and mathematical abilities (known as letter and number series)."

There is a strong correlation between IQ and socioeconomic status in the United States and many other countries.

We don’t need to have an IQ test to determine who gets to come or stay in the United States.

People with higher academic qualifications automatically have higher IQs in general.
