I'd imagine most of us dont have them all for protection. Thats part of the problem, ignorance. I have two that I'd consider for defense. The rest are there because I like shooting them or because of collector intrest/value.
The question really is what are YOU scared of that you concern yourself with others personal belongings?
Truth is that the vast majority of crimes are commited by people with one gun, not those who are actually interested in firearms for sport or collecting.
Frankly I'm not concerned. I really never gave it a second thought till I saw this poll.
Collectors makes sense, but I still find it bizarre, and rooted in fear. Guns are tools of death. I think it's as morbid as collecting bones, shrunken heads, or Nazi paraphenalia, but I don't it threatening.
Most people I know who collect guns do convey a sense of paranoia in their conversation. Living next door to these type of people gives me a sense of living next door to drug dealers/users. Generally speaking there is no need to be concerned if you don't get involved with them, criticize, or be judgmental. However, one must be mindful that anything could happen.

I'm not a gun collector per se. I own a number of different types of firearms and, I carry a concealed weapon with me frequently.
I have used a firearm to protect myself and my family some years ago against an intruder and have used a firearm to kill several wild animals (Javelina) that were threatening.
There is no reason to be "paranoid" because your next door neighbor happens to own a firearm. It is nothing extraordinary.

I dont believe that. Your concern, unfounded that it may be, is obvious in your forst post to the thread & in a comment further down in this one.

Again, your unfounded paranoia is oozing in every word. Tools of death? The same as shrunken heads & Nazi trash?
Thats absurd. The state of Massachusetts has a history of respecting & fighting for liberty. Its pretty sad that the same place now propagates socialism & fights against indivudual rights & liberty to the extent that its citizenry are afraid of people who excercise liberty in ways they dont.

As I said, you are scared of people with guns. Theres no other explination for you comparing them to drug users & Nazi's. Your last sentence says it all.
How many gun owners or collectors do you know that are prone to violence or illegal activity?
Given that current federal law, to say nothing of MA law, forbids that sort of people from owning or buying guns I'd say its very likely that you know not a single violent threatening gun owner.
Your perceptions are skewed by the environment you live in.
Gun enthusiasts really shouldn't need to say anything, their interests are protected specifically by the constitution.
Far as I can tell anyway in 99% of the arguments they speak obvious truth & are countered by complex convoluted theoretical bullsnot. Very similar to the crap you spew regularly.
By last count, 38 of your last 47 posts have been in threads on gun issues. It is pretty obvious that "the crap you spew regularly" reflects a one-sided interest in only one subject, which does not say much for the depth of your "bullsnot".
Like they always say, "America loves its guns". Biggest gun nuts in the world. Got a problem - go for the gun, Having an arguement - go for the gun, Wife nagging you to death - go for the gun.
Its all about guns with you lot over the pond. Can't you settle anything without your piece?
Oh and I almost forgot - when the riots start and you reach for your gun, just remember one thing: The looters will also be armed - protection from YOU.
Find an annoying post? Go for the ...
Yes, it's a holdover from when we had to boot out the british lot, got to be sure they don't return and with an average of 27 guns per house I'm sure we'll be just fine up here!
25% of the polled here have more than 10 guns? Personally I think that's phony, but if it's not, it's shocking to me. That's some serious paranoia. I've lived in many high crime areas for many years of my life and never felt the need for a weapon to defend myself. Good lord people, what are you all so scared of?
I like many types of guns but personally military surplus I have passion for.Mauser types alone there are hundreds of varients that were made for many countries,a Mauser collector alone could collect over a hundred types of Mausers and not have them all.And then there is finding a premium kept specimen VS one that looks like a tank drove over it and has a shot out barrel.
Here are a couple of my favorite milsurps to hopefully give a better idea that owning alot of guns isn't always about paranoia it is about a passion for the history, collecting different specimens and variants and also finding what ammo the gun shoots best with (and ammo selection plays a huge part with the potential accuracy) and maybe a passion for restoring old war horse gems.
Here is my favorite and most accurate M1 Garand.Used by the American military from WW2 and even into Vietnam. My dad carried one in Korea. It is one of the best balanced, well shooting rifles with iron sights ever made. There are many variations of it through its history,a Garand collector would have to have several ones to complete a collection.
Many gun ranges have milsurp contests, just like service rifle and cowboy contests.

German made 1909 Argentine contract Mausers, consecutive serial numbers mint condition.Do you know how hard it is to find 100 year old rifles in this condition not to mention consecutive serial numbers?I could own 1 but I own 2 because of that. Now do you see how owning several firearms becomes easy to do?
These rifles sights start at 300 meters so they shoot high at 100.Trying different ammo grains and types can shift impact and effect group sizes. There is more to it than just pointing and squeezing the trigger.
