Hell, if the entire U.S. drove hybrids, we wouldn't have a problem.

i agree and disagree at the same time. hybrids are great but they also represent a major problem. we believe that we can spend and consume our way out of our economic, national security and environmental problems.

the reality is that we can't. economically we're in recession and arguably moving into the big D. we won't be able to afford hybrids. most of the demand side fixes aren't going to come from sophisticated technology. they are going to come from simple changes. planning your outings, walking, cycling and carpooling. moving closer to work or 4 day weeks. the rusting metros, civics and corollas are going to be repaired. our bananas aren't going to be flown in and there'll be less corporate jetsetting.

I sure hope these people realize that jacking up prices would further deteriorate an increasing fragile global economy, further reducing demand for oil!

Whomever wins on Tuesday better get to work soon on promoting alternate energy sources!

That;s what they have said and done for the last ten years. It takes time to get it to market but if they hadn't stopped it would be here now. In the meantime we ahve been sending more and more of our GDP to oversaes. We need to drill now for the future. Remeber this is the same democratic plan that stopped necular years ago and now look at yoyur electric bill and the blackout we have seen. meanwhile countries like France are producing 70% of their elctric power by necular. We on the other hand are spending money on fossil fuels to produce it. That's pretty stupid to satisfy the environmantal lobby;make the people suffer.OPEC is going to drain as much money from us as possible;kind oif their versio0n of share the wealth but they want thew majority.Same thing europe did to them for centuries.

you don't need the government to do any of this. if oil goes to $250, like i wish it would, the free market would come up with some novel solutions. government involvement will just mess the whole thing up. corn ethanol ring any bells?

start off with solar thermal for hot water. it is incredibly efficient, simple and much cheaper than photovoltaics. they can also be used to assist your heating system

yes, but at least he made a valid suggestion. is it the solution, no! but if we start making little changes we can bring down our consumption and dependence. every bit helps

Are you sure that is their reason for raising the price? It has nothing to do with having learned free-market economic principles from the global leader in free-market wheeling and dealing? Selling oil for whatever the market will bear?
