Many American blacks have some non-African ancestry. A lot of slave women had children whose father's were white. Just as every Italian has at least one pope in his family tree.
A lot of Whitey are not pure either, Though my Grandmothers sisters would not admit the blanks on the family tree they were doing, Grams did. My Grams great grandfather was a Al Sharpton, Some characteristics do come out of the woodpile. Grams ex-husband was a pure Cherokee, I look like Whitey, my next older brother looks native american but he tries to hide it.
Why are they so different? American negros seem to have lighter skin and different physiognomy.

You need to watch the word negro dude. Blacks/African Americans have mix ancestries such as European, Asian, and Native Americans. Not all Africans are dark skinned , the Africans from the Eastern countries like the Ethiopians and Somalies come in different skin tones.

IMO, there are white people of all different "shades", black people of all different shades, asian people of all different shades, etc. Who gives a crap we are all human beings....dopey topic.
this thread should go to the science forum, or maybe even the education forum. unless it somehow involves the societal differences of africans versus black americans, skin tone doesn't of itself make a political discussion.
as far as the question: yeah, people have mixed heritages. i am a mutt of so many european ancestries that i can hardly keep them straight. i am sure that there are black people with the same kind of mixed heritage, and as has been already pointed out, even africans come in different colors.
Not sure, but Africans are heavily discriminated against by American Negroes. I see it every day on campus, and saw it in the work place. I find the African Negroes to be better students and better workers than the American Negroes. I worked at a meat packing plant about 6 years ago and my line leader and crew leader were from Senegal. We used to speak German to each other and talk about futboll, since they were fans of Hagi from Romania and the one had lived in the UK and was a fan of Dan Petrescu at Manchester United. They also spoke French, plus their tribal language, plus a couple of other tribal languages. They're quite intelligent and really good people. As an employer, I'd hire African Negroes before I hired American Negroes.
