"Fleeing" for 60 years? I think not...

When did Cuba become a democracy? As I said, I don't think that "wet foot, dry foot" should be continued and in fact I don't think it should have ever been a policy of ours.

I was just watching a documentary on the miami dade county channel, on cubans arriving in the 60's and 80's, when the haitians came.

and how the south florida paradise was lost after the cubans/haitians came.

I've been hearing the same from old white folks.

Your opinion?

No. Miami wasn't that much of a "paradise" to begin with. Miami BEACH, on the other hand...

It's not, but if it's such a scary communist country, why are many Cuban-Americans using it as a vacation destination?

Re the bolded text: You are correct.

Dunno, kinda depends on your idea of "paradise", but seems like the Coconut Grove area has always been pretty nice....

Quite safe, quite cheap. Really was a paradise back then. (late 70's for me).

My family moved to Miami in 1951 when I was 5 years old. I still live Miami-Dade. It was never a "paradise," but it was a damn nice place to live. And, contrary to what some have posted, it was not a backwater "town" - it was a city. We had a thriving downtown, suburban shopping centers, expressways, an international airport, a nationally televised New Year's Eve parade, restaurants, movie theaters - everything that defined a metropolitan area for the times (50s/60s/70s).

In Ray1945's imaginary world, even though 61 years have passed since 1951 and radical changes have happened everywhere in the world even in small mono-ethnic communities across the United States, everything bad that has happened in Miami in the last 50+ years has happened because of Cubans arriving there in 1959. That is to say, it doesn't matter that the fabric of society everywhere has changed due to the loosening of the moral code, changing family structure, the sexual revolution, the selfish 1980s, the drug culture, rap, the idealization of thuggery in popular music, etc.. and it doesn't matter that Miami has been in an flux for the past couple of decades with tens of thousands of people from other states and countries moving to the city, it doesn't matter that the economy of the metropolis has changed, that the place has expanded, NOTHING MATTERS. The only factor that's to blame for the worsening of Miami are Cubans. He goes around with this monomania posting endless unfounded dribble blaming Cubans of everything, but drinking the blood of newborn babies!

You know what, I'm tired of this conversation. Enjoy your delusional world - you know, the one where Cubans are the saviors of a dead and dying Miami because their women are strong, their men are good-looking, and all their children are above average.

I was just thinking the same thing. There may have been some Columbians involved too.
