You missed the word "if". In other words, he is still opposed to Burris' appointment but IF the appointment survives legal/political challenges, Obama will live with the outcome and work with the guy. After all, what is he supposed to to - stonewall the guy? He is not saying, according to your quote, that he has changed his mind.
I should point out that the Democrats and everyone else need to cool their engines because Governor Blagojevich has not been convicted of anything (that I am aware of) and until then I don't see a compelling argument against the appointment.
