To me, it represents a time when slaves were commonplace & accepted. It represents a small-minded time to me....really, it just represents a racist period of life. Sorry, can't really express what it means to me, I just know how I feel when I see it.

Rebellion against a government when the people no longer consent to be governed by said government. Just like during the American Revolution when we seceded from Great Britain. It's unfortunate the South held onto slavery but there was far more at stake than slavery.

It represents the last time states had the rights granted to them under the Constitution.

Before a President forced them to rejoin the union.

It represents those who believed and fought for a way of life and the right to live a certain way.

They had more courage than almost everyone currently living in the USA....

They were willing to fight and die,not whine and complain and demand the government take care of them.
