“If that tax is passed it would mean consumers would pay $315 million more (in 2009) to buy the same amount of beer they bought in 2008," De Kalb claimed. "A pint of beer would go from $4.50 to $6.”
How many people will just stay home when the price goes up by 33%? How many cafes and pubs will close? What about those jobs????
I think you're nuts. Do you want them to tax your soft drinks 1900%? Do you want them to tax your french fries 1900%? Do you want your state to add a 1900% tax on top of ticket sales that already have hefty Ticketmaster fees? Do you want a 1900% tax on your bottled water? What about an extra 1900% tax on over-the-counter pain relievers like Advil, or the solution for your contact lenses? Gee, why we're at it, why not tax condoms and birth control 1900%, too? And maybe tack on a 1900% tax on parks usage and maybe even golf courses?
I've been saying for years that once cigarettes are nearly prohibited (and that's where it's headed, as far as I'm concerned) that interest groups will turn to something else to take away. It's bull$hit.
Yes, it is BS, but since they decided to go after smoking then I am glad that they are finally going after the lushes out there. Next, they need to go after the junk food and fast food people.
Wait until they drop the gas tax and start charging by the mile to make those who use the highway the most pay the most. Its coming as revenues from gasoline dropsboth federally and state.
Heck ya......about time someone else got picked on for a while. I quit drinking a couple years ago,why only 1900%.
