Nope February is white history month too. It seems that I must be reminded every February that Lincoln freed the slaves- a group of people that he felt was inferior to whites

Actually, there are many who dispute that Lincoln freed the privately owned chattel slaves.
The proper legal term for freeing a slave is manumission, not emancipation.
Emancipation is bestowing certain privileges of a free adult upon one who would ordinarily not have those privileges, as in the case of an emancipated minor.
It might explain why the 14th amendment imposed subjugation of U.S. citizenship instead of recognizing the sovereignty of the newly 'freed' African - Americans.
The Supreme court did uphold "separate but equal" segregation laws until national socialism reduced the status at law of all participants to the lowest level.
Perhaps the Federal government became the new owner?
Wouldn't surprise me in the least...
Black History Month (BHM) is an opportunity for people to learn about the contributions of Black men and women, as well as about the contributors themselves. I don't see the harm in having it. It is not as if anything is being forced on anyone, there are no holidays (which would affect businesses and their productivity), government offices maintain regular hours, and nobody is required to actually to participate in anything.
In fact, I've observed very little references to BHM. Although I personally almost forgot it was BHM there have been many instances in the past when my exposure to the contributions of Black men were the result of short 5 minute TV articles or a column in the newspaper during BHM. And, most importantly, it piqued my interest enough to explore their contributions beyond what I saw or read - and isn't that the point?
As with BHM, White History Month (WHM), if we were to have it, would be an opportunity for people to learn about the contributions of White men and women, as well as the contributors themselves. However, the only problem is such a month would be redundant. I think it is safe to say that White men and women (but mostly men) and their contributions are very well known.
For example, every President up until now has been a White male and all of our monetary units feature the likenesses of White males. The first man in space and the first man on the Moon were both White males. Turn on your TV and look at the majority of the top news anchors on the national networks. America's literary heroes are mostly White males. We have honored the accomplishments of several White males by naming states of this country after them and the explorations of others are documented in any history book. White History Month implies that there is a severe lack of awareness and/or knowledge - is there? I don't think so.
And trust me - I respect, appreciate, and I am proud of the accomplishment's of White men and women. I do not advocate diminishing their standing or undermining their contributions. But to say we don't need BHM anymore and/or we need WHM...
~Mike (is not White or Black and has no vested interest in BHM or WHM)
Sometimes I get the feeling that March is Irish history month because of the proliferation of Irish- centric events. Not that this is bad. I would like to see more historical programs on Irish history myself.
People on the internet talk about why there is no White Entertainment TV or no White History Month, but frankly, if some white guy decided to lobby for this in real life, he would get laughed out of existence, even by other white people. It just sounds too stupid.
If there were, or ever had been, a situation in which whites were historically excluded from higher education, and you needed to set up a fund so that they could go to college, it would be incumbent upon you to do that.
Hey Sunil's Dad,
I got to give you mad props for your continuing effort to refute some of these insane comments about POC on this forum. I got tired of the nonsense and skipped CD for a while. I read a post on another thread you are active on referring to "Ghetto speak". What the heck is "Ghetto speak"? How are you in general sir?

Sometime ago I heard a comment about October, 2013 being the first White History month. I don't believe that either, but it could happen.
