Isn't it just easier to just ban smoking from our society?

How should your family describe your cause of death?
Was it suicide, murder, an accident or stupidity?

How about:
Death by Smoking
Subjective arguments should not be a matter of public policy, yet you suggest your personal opinion (or rather a majority of personal opinions) on the matter should dictate others use or experience with it by using slippery slopes as evidence of the need to force others to your will.

There is a reason this country was not founded as a pure democracy. A system as such operates purely on the individual bias of the majority who seek oppression of the minority.

Pure democracies are no different than a gang of thugs terrorizing a small village through might and intimidation.

Now if someone is affected by something in a valid harmful manner, then it is within bounds to object and limit anthers action to force that influence.

Cases of being offended, annoyed, irritated, etc... when the that activity is by choice of the participant is not a valid grounds for objection or infringement of rights.

It is however a perfect example of individual agendas attempting to drive the reduction of individual freedoms.

So does most any smoke out there, but these same people who are complaining about issues like these don't seem to go nuts when they are cooking. They also ignore the obvious issues with basic cleaning products and the exposure to numerous chemical fumes that are inhaled daily. Nor do they pay attention to the aspect of toxicity level exposure and body filtration levels. The EPA's very reports of breakdowns of harmful exposure amounts in many of the listings they have are in direct conflict with their proclaimed toxicity levels concerning SHS.

The complaints in this area nothing more than selective subjective opinion attempting to use selective taxing and policy to bend people to their will.

What a grand idea! Alcohol prohibition worked so well, as is drug prohibition - let's do the same with tobacco!

Or, we could just not infringe on people's personal freedoms any more than what has already been done...

...nah.

What happened to obama's promise of not raising taxes (ANY taxes) on people making less than $250K?

This tax, in particular effects the poor disproportionately since more low-income people are smokers.

What happened to that promise?

Just more BS campaign rhetoric from BO, sanrene. The BO supporters who are cheerleading him as he bankrupts the country are still buying it, too. They actually believe that tripe.

If/When BO gets the carbon credit system running, these same people will be complaining that their energy bills have doubled or tripled, and they'll be blaming the "evil, greedy corporations." They're too "enlightened" to realize that BO's carbon scheme is just a stealth tax, and a massive one at that...

You don't have to smoke. Since it's a choice, it's a voluntary tax.

Smoking is banned in every public and public-use building in the state of Florida. There used to be an exception for bars that met certain criteria but I'm not sure if that still exists or not. A few weeks ago I had to change planes in North Carolina. I was surprised to see several people smoking in the airport. I hadn't seen that in a long time. I've only know one person who smoked in the last 20 years or so. It really seems to be a non-factor down here but I guess there are still smokers since many stores still sell cigarettes.

That's not the point.

Obama promised NO taxes of any kind for people making under $250K.

He lied once again.

People who make below $250k, and people who make more, have an equal opportunity to choose to smoke or not. Not only that, it makes more sense for people with more disposable income to spend it on luxuries.

Don't blame Obama for individuals' irrational choices.
