I think this would be a good idea. With the high unemployment, it could create some jobs.
And I really think that the work week should be lowered. We work more hours now then they did in the 1950s. It should be less now as our society grows.
Also if they lowered the work week to 35 hours I think that more companies would consider 4 day work weeks. This would relieve traffic, pollution, and save people money on commuting costs. Plus it would give people more time to travel and spend money.
yea... I used to work from 8 AM-7 PM Monday-Saturday. Made a lot of money, but you will burn yourself out. I worked that job for a summer in college and by the end of summer, i was dead tired of working there

I can't afford a 12 1/2% reduction in pay, I'll pass. Nor a comarable reduction in health care, benefits or vacation time.

Nor can most working families. I myself work a 48 work week. Prime vacation weeks 60 hour work weeks. I have done this for over 15 years. No sign of burn out yet. Grew up on a farm, in the summer your day started at 5 am and ended14 to16 hours later. American farmers are amoung our most productive people and amoung the most poorly paid.
But it will never happen. American's are stretched thin even in good times, all of it based on a 40+ hour workweek. Debt-to-income ratios would have to be drastically altered for something like this to excel in America.
Good on the macro level perhaps, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.
