I'm just asking; I haven't seen such blind hatred since the Cold War.

This forum doesn't represent reality. Don't take it too seriously. Forums like this tend to attract people with strong opinions; that's why you see a lot of emotional reactions that you wouldn't see from the average American.

I posted this in another thread, but I think it is applicable here as well.. maybe even more so.

The very word homosexual elicits the strongest negative reaction from within from those with such hostility against us. I have a feeling that they may well have had a sexual feeling or attraction to the same sex and are so ashamed that the feeling they had goes against everything they have been taught from very early on, they must do everything to attack it because they can't live with the inner conflict. By attacking others, they are actually attacking the feeling inside... The irony is, our most vocal detractors - could be our fellow brothers and sisters in pain.

no, no, I disagree. I think on the board you see honest reactions, whereas irl people pretend to be more PC than they really are.

well there's plenty of straight people out there with gay son's, daughters, cousins, sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers, co-workers, friends....
and when we see the people we love subjected to injustice... I could certainly see why there are straight people VERY pissed off about gay issues...
and then of course we have religious zealots out there fighting a jesus war, thinking they're on holy ground fighting against a modern day sodom and gamorrah...
I think it's pretty understandable....

They may be honest reactions, but most people aren't interested in politics at all. As a group, I don't think we're representative of average Americans.

yeah, but if, like, they vote and stuff, their opinions matter because it effects the law.

Good point...I forgot many nice straight people have...gays in the family and defend them...just my family is the opposite so the thought did not occur to me when I started the thread....It's not all hatred from them, but the thread was asking the hate mongers...my experience in life is like another poster said...they are kinda "that way", so they vehemently attack gays to throw people off track...how very sad.

Because teaching math, science, English, art, history over homosexuality is offensive to some people.

Many gays and their supporters a like the religious right. They take the stance that if you don't support their views, then you are angry and hostile.

Some people have a problem with education and use it as a resource to promote their own agenda.

You missed the point. It goes both ways.
