It was pointed out earlier in the thread that this was done by a volunteer organization and cost the taxpayers nil.

This is paid for with tax dollars.

I just don't get it. We're trying to make the environment a better place to live for us & future generations yet they consider it a threat. It's not like recycling, turning off your lights, not flushing after every pee, not using so much water, etc. is an undue hardship. Why such resistance to it all? And this thing w/the lightbulbs, it's merely informational & a suggestion yet people get immediately & completely riled up. Like I said before, people need to calm down.

The concept goes from suggestion to mandatory very quickly.

What is wrong with suggesting people be more energy efficient?

Becomes...

We are implementing regulation to enforce compliance with all energy efficient products without regards to your choice. This move may increase costs on your part, but it is a cost we are willing to require of you for the sake of the planet.

What is wrong with suggesting people eat better?

Becomes...

We are implementing taxes on all foods we have deemed unhealthy in an effort to combat health related issues. This move may increase your costs in foods, but we believe it will be better for you and may reduce health care costs.

What is wrong with suggesting people follow our recommendations in anything we speak about?

Becomes...

We have determined that we are much better at making decisions for you and so have removed your ability to discern for your self. This move may reduce your freedoms, but we feel it is in our best interest that you do what we think is in your best interest.

Of course they don't. You'd be competing with the family pets and they obviously come first!
