American do have a right to live wherever they want. With that said, I don't think you have much to worry about. Texas is very different from California, and it has a long history of being different from California (and the rest of the country, for that matter). Cultures don't usually change very quickly.

Californians care more about natural surroundings than culture (at first), so if there are mountains, lakes, desert and things to do outside, that is considered a target for relocation.

Unfortunately, many get there and see that the culture is too different and they come back, to be poor in sunny, beautiful, chilled California.

Yeah, it's purely anecdotal evidence, but it does seem like a lot of Californians return after moving out of the state. Love it or hate it - this is a unique state with tons to offer. Every time I return home from a trip, I'm happy to be back.

Agreed, so much so, that many in California do not see a reason to leave at all. Without needing money for vacations, more can be applied to a home.

Then there are the few people who are obsessed by politics and would leave their best friend if they found out they were a liberal..those types are definitely leaving.

I have not met one liberal who moved from California. My experience has been that is mostly conservatives. It is common sense really. Why would a liberal move to the south.... Other than a few liberal enclaves...Atlanta and Austin, the south is pretty conservative. I just would rather they not come to Arkansas. It is conservative enough without them. For all of those from Cali considering coming to Arkansas remember we have a democratic govorner and most of the elected officials are democrats although fairly conservative democrats. I think Texas and Oklahoma would be a better fit for you.

Arkansas is more socially conservative than Texas. It's far more fiscally liberal than Texas.

Why would anyone want to live in a state that's fiscally liberal, socially conservative?

Agreed completely. I like it here in California. I like it a whoooole lot and while I have tossed around the idea of moving, there is absolutely nowhere else I would want to live. I have a good feeling about my state... I think it will rebound and all those people who moved are going to be regretting it. Maybe I'm completely wrong, but I'm hoping I'm right.

Well, if you want lots of babies and to live off the government, it sounds like Eutopia to me. Why do you think 10s of thousands are crossing the border?
