If *he* had done something in his past or "on the side" that they found to not meet their standards, I suppose it would be legitimate. But firing him for something his wife did seems very out of line. Even if she had committed an actual crime, it would be inappropriate (unless he was involved).
I'm not that judgmental. If someone can do his job well, I don't see why his personal life should play a role in whether or not he's allowed to keep his job.
I'm judgemenatal and tax dollars should not be spent to employ someone that openly supports amoral and most likely sexually risky behavior. That some people find porn perfectly acceptable as an occupation is indicative of how far our society has sunk.

One little flaw in your thinking, life liberty and the pursuit of happiness are individual rights for the individual to define for themself.Who ever his wife is it had no impact on the personal lives of others or the man's job performance, your definition of what is acceptable moral code in this case is nothing more than busybody nannying.

I see it as a sign of freedom.
There's actually a very strong correlation between the legitimacy of porn and equality for women, contrary to what some moralists may believe. Look at the countries where porn was first made legal: Denmark, Sweden, The Netherlands. These are countries with great equality for women. Look at the countries where it's not legal: Pakistan, Iran, United Arab Emirates, etc. These are countries where women have few rights.
If you're anti-porn, you're probably also in favor of very traditional/restrictive rules for women.
Who the man marries has nothing to do with his job. I am not personally into porn but if the man or his wife did not break any laws then he should not have been fired. This is a way for people to push their morals onto others and it is not right. So long as her job is not affecting him from doing his job it is no ones business what she does so long as it is legal. Next they will say mayors can only have sex in the missionary position because all other positions are amoral. GMAB!
I would sue the bast**ds that fired me using this for an excuse for many, many times my salary and then insist in getting my job back. What a man's wife did or does for a living is none of the town's business.
It's these kinds of examples which have taught our youth to have little to no respect for adults.
I would think the example he'd be setting would be about his actions today. He got married. That's not a bad thing. The woman he married had a past. That's not particularly unusual. He worked hard and did a good job. Usually, that's commendable.
The town council example was to teach people they are guilty by association. It's okay to fire someone for who they know or are friends with or are related to, regardless of job performance. And you'll never be forgiven for the things you do, whether it was illegal or not, whether you hurt someone or not, you'll be judged and labeled, forever.
99% of the people of Ft Myers would never even have known about his wife if the 'Harper Valley PTA" had not decided to go on a "emergency" moral crusade.
Hardly a situation of the man effecting the public's moral integrity. Some of those on the council probably whack off to her movies in private.
