tell that to the thousands of families who have lost a loved one in Roadside bombs in a place we had no business going in to. - whether you want to admit it or not..the US is the superpower and yes if we dont act, nobody will..and war is hell..nobody likes war or casualties, but sometimes it is necessary to fight for what you believe in

after 9/11, - economic catastrophy..airline industry in the tank, tourism, etc...self explanitory...

Has Iraq brought peace to the Middle East, or have tens of thousands died (more than under Saddam) as a result of the failed policy of attacking Iraq? - he killed, raped, hudreds of thousands..of his own people...your stmt is false...and yes it has inspired people in middle east that they can have freedom from tyrants too..look at Iran...but BHO blew that one...

What about the fact that the 9/11 commission proved that he had enough intel to do something about the attack? - Clintons Wall of Silence tween CIA and FBI took care of that..please at least make honest statements...

(ohhhhh right I forgot all of Bush's screw-ups amount to "Uhh...It was Clinton's fault! yeah!" )

As for your first statement, it's simply not our job to be the world's policeman. First of all, There are atrocities happening all the time all OVER the world - we cannot go around "fixing" all of them. And, often times (ahem, Iraq) we go into a country with very different beliefs and values - not to mention hundreds of years of ingrained ethnic conflict - and we tell them "we know better. Do what we say."

That does nothing but make them hate us more. Since national security has been the catchphrase of the Republican party for so long, it's amazing to me that this kind of cowboy diplomacy - ya know, invading countries and all that - makes us LESS SAFE. It makes youths on the other side of the world MORE likely to join up with a radical terrorist organization, for example.

I'm not saying that the US should never become involved in international affairs. But engaging in pre-emptive strikes and invading is probably not the wisest course.

The bottom line here is poverty. That is the key. People who are prospering do not become terrorists..period. So the key is to get them self sufficient and become capitalists like Dubai..and they will forget all about the Jihad. They resent our success and that is how the terrorists (err nice boys I mean) are able to recruit..it has much less to do with their hatred of the West as it has to do with thier own govt keeping them poor.

Ok, so why are there ghettos here where people have to sell drugs because they can't get a job? And there are turf wars in those areas. Haven't you heard? Explain to me how establishing capitalism will fix everything.

Your whole argument operates under the assumption that there aren't poor people under capitalism. That is absolutely ridiculous.

Never said that..in fact you made my case for me..thank you...poverty breeds extremism..capitalism does not guarantee rewards for everyone..thats not the discussion here

That is grossly oversimplifying the issue. Yes, I think you're right that poverty does play into it. But there are a LOT of other issues at hand. Cultural divides, religion, long-standing ethnic conflicts in the region, our relationship with Israel... it's complicated! Regardless, the US coming in - already hated throughout the region - to police things is not going to help.

Pffft. Don't try to change the discussion. You basically said capitalism was the solution. I simply stated you were wrong and gave reasons why.

Haven't you ever watched one of those movies that takes place at colleges before the Civil Rights movement? Duh. He was at Yale from 1964-1968.

Please READ A HISTORY BOOK!!!!!!!!!!

You obviously know absolutely nothing about the 1960s and the radical shifts in politics that happened from Barry Goldwater to Richard Nixon to Ronald Reagan to now.

Yale is STILL a conservative place for the most part. My brother went there (graduating in 2004) and he complained about how conservative it was. And MBA programs are usually quite conservative, as business leaders tend to lean Republican a lot more than Philosophy or English majors.

The fact of the matter is that you have yet to show a single piece of actual evidence to support anything you've said. Yet you try to refute me with a "that's not true!". Sorry, but my knowledge on this subject is clearly superior, as I have actually opened a history book and been on the campuses of Harvard and Yale.

Haven't you ever heard of OLD MONEY? Don't you know of the OLD BOYS NETWORK? Seriously, if you actually think that Ivy League schools are hippie places for socialists to learn how to secretly push for a Nazi final solution, you've got to seek some serious help.

Somehow there's this big liberal conspiracy when those same idiots who run the DNC now couldn't beat Bush in 2004 when it seemed impossible to lose. The DNC is clearly not capable of conspiracy, and if they are, it's a recent change. After all, who ran the country until the last election in NOVEMBER?

Plus, your excuses for Bush are a lot more flimsy than any excuse made by any of these Obama supporters. Remember, I'm not an Obama supporter, I just am a student of history who cannot stand how ignorance is allowed to flourish. I just try to put a stop to the ignorance, as I am a registered Republican who is appalled by the growing stupidity in the party since 1996. I have never voted for a Democrat (except for once when my sister was on the campaign), and probably never will.
