Much has been made of the various iterations of Thomas Jefferson's famous quote that have graced t-shirts, signs carried at town halls, bumper stickers, and internet forum signature lines. Here is the quote in its entirety:
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. It is it's natural manure."
There's no doubt that this is an inspirational quote given the context in which it was conceived. However, I feel that those who use/display the quote in 2009 are being somewhat vague about what their interpretation of it. So I ask, if you have displayed this quote on a t-shirt, sign, etc...what does it mean to you? Do you interpret it literally? If so, whose blood do you propose serve as the "manure?"

The tyrants that are trying to shove things down the throats of the American people that they don't want.

Again, a bit vague, so here is a bit more of a direct question: By invoking the Jeffersonian quote are you advocating violent overthrow of the United States government and/or assassination of our leaders?

Are you trying to bait something only to report it to the WH so you feel like you're being a righteous citizen? What is your take on all of this since you started the thread.
Interesting-though the slogan is bandied about quite a bit by folks who go so far as to carry weapons to political rallies, no one seems willing to cop to wanting to take up arms against the government.

No. I just think that people should say what they mean and mean what they say-or not say it at all. If you're not willing to start a full blown revolution, don't make idle threats in the form of catchy slogans.

So are you trying to start a revolution by starting this thread? What is your purpose here? Be more CLEAR!

If/when a government no longer represents the people what should the people do? Answer. Vote them all out. BlowoutCongress.com
tyrant=In classical politics, a tyrant is one who has taken power by their own means as opposed to hereditary or constitutional power.
Sounds alot like the current administration. They hate the Constitution. What are all these czars?
Ok, you've made it clear that you consider the entirety of the current administration "tyrants." Do you or do you not advocate that you or someone else should use violence to remove them from their positions of power? It's a simple yes or no question.
