That's pretty much where this topic is going...
Unfortunately, that pretty much rings true. Thanks for the chuckle.

What merit is there in that idea? What would the likely result be, other than skewing the electorate in favor of people who place a minimal value on human life? Such a measure would militarize the society and even erode the principle of civilian control of the military.

I believe more educational attention should be given to high schoolers regarding the enlightenment of the decisions they can make at the voting booth.Educate them in a manner that fosters interest objectively and motivates them to understand the importance of the consequences of their decisions. There should be debates.Maybe tests can be required that ensure they have the proper knowledge they need. Most people at that age dont vote but more are now due to pressure from the liberal media and i think there will be a higher percentage of younger people voting in the future so the key is to make it "cool" to have actual political knowledge based on facts as well as independant thought if you are going to vote.Easier said than done but it can happen.

People of all ages aren't wise or mature, but to answer the question Yes, 18-year olds should be able to vote. The fact this question is even being asked is pretty sad.

As was said before, people of all age groups can be very ignorant, and definitely don't need to have any influence over US policy. If you were to take one age demographic and compare it to others. You would definitely find that people 18-25 probably know very little about politics compared to people older. Thats not to say that there aren't college aged persons that are VERY involved in politics.

I have had several debates talking about a necessity to have some basic knowledge of the views of the candidate you are voting for before you can vote(like people mentioned, there are huge amounts of people that voted for Obama but can't even tell you why). It would be a "test" to see if you are eligible to vote. Some people I talk to are for it, so the uneducated masses under the influence of FOX, CNN, and MSNBC won't be the ones in control of our future. Others say that it might be economically and culturally biased. And I think we should FINE anyone who makes a comment like "the majority of americans don't want this" because today some poll came out. The VAST MAJORITY of americans supported the Iraq war. It passed 77-23 in the Senate. The people that know whats going on need to be able to make decisions, and the people that don't(most americans) need to shut up.

We need to fine any news agencies that makes any distortions of the truth for political gain. Any news agency of over a certain size that supports any sort of conspiracy theory needs to be fined. Any news agency that aims to create fear or hate needs to be fined.

No more of this bull**** 9/11 being an inside job. No more of this Bush was just helping his buddies. No more of this Obama is a communist. No more Obama was born in Kenya. We need to have respect for our leaders, and lets put the facts out there in a non-biased manner and just let people decide for themselves. If we don't agree with what is going on, we can vote someone else into power. The media right now has FAR too much control of our politics because its FREE to say almost anything it wants, and the vast majority of americans have no clue whats really going on so they just believe whatever their guys say. The news is supposed to be the news, not opinions.

If 18 year olds are old enough to get married, enter contracts and die for this country, they're old enough to vote.
