There are some who are two, three, etc times 18 and still aren't informed enough to vote.
When I voted for the first time last November at the age of 18, I did my research and I feel I made the best choice.
I knew some people my age who didn't even bother to register to vote.
On my 18th birthday, one of the things I was most excited about was mailing off my voter registration form.

So you voted for Hillary?

I think 18 is young or old enough...but 15 years old to drive a car...(I hope my son won't get mad now) is too me way too young and that is why my kids won't be allowed to obtain their permit till they are older.

I agree with the majority here, 18 is old enough an age limit to be going on with if we are going to have an electoral system at all. Then again, I don't think most people are bright enough to vote, period, in any age range.

My take is simply this: If they are old enough to go to war, fight and die, to protect our freedoms, then they are old enough to vote.

On an different topic: While the drinking age is 21, if a person has proper military ID, serve them anything they want.

Do you have any idea how ridiculous your post is, or are you upset
Obamas in office and looking to blame it on young Americans.
Actually, I find your reply to be ridiculous. This question is not whether 18yr olds should be recruited, trained, and deployed to Iraq but if most of are really mature enough to vote and understand what they voting for in a candidate.Dont assume anything else. This question is about the culture, education and sociology of today in America and the level of competance of the average 18 year in making an intelligent decision about the future and directon of this country and politics.

Oh Okay, so the level of competance and decision making of the average 18 yr old
is acceptable to fight a war but not competant enough to make
an intelligent informed decision about who they want to run our country
and send them to war.
Gosh what was I thinking

Don't leave out some of the 30 and 40 year olds.
There's a lot of lack-of-wisdom among the 60+ crowd. They may be mature, but some are stone dumb.

If it were up to me, everything (drinking, military service) would be moved up to 19 or 20, not the other way around.
