It's like saying "OMG, they want to hold a sporting event in Denver! Do you realize how high the background radiation is? It's terribly unsafe! People get cancer there!"
Yes, Denver has higher background radiation, and it causes health effects. But the difference is in the noise, almost.
The crime in Chicago might be higher than in some other large cities in the US, but it's not appreciably different than other cities, and it's much, much better than other cities on the short list.
