I come from a Texas conservative family, today I am liberal and sisters too, we all voted more Democratic than Republican, but that does not mean that we are 100% the liberal side.
The older a person gets, the more conscious it is also, it means their economic point of view, is less liberal and more conservative .. but how much their point of moral views rarely change.
Most young people who give a damn are idealistic and want the world to to be better, which means changing it for the better, plus they usually prefer excitement and new over security and old.
When people are older and they have (hopefully) achieved some success and prosperity, they want to keep that prosperity. Keeping things the way they are means no change.
Liberals advocate for excitement and change. Conservatives try to keep things as the way they are and have been, so it is no surprise why so many young people are liberals, and so many seniors are conservative.
The first known version was made by Francois Guizot who states"
"Not to be a republican at 20 is proof of want of heart; to be one at 30 is proof of want of head."
As for the quote falsely attributed to Churchill, I would agree except that I prefer the version attributed to George Clemenceau who was reported to have said:
"Any man who is not a socialist at age 20 has no heart. Any man who is still a socialist at age 40 has no head."
So you see it depends on where you start that determines where you end.
I was always conservative. My father is more libertarian with an independent streak.
My mother brought up in socialist Denmark is hard line conservative who despises any kind of gov handout. She was raised by her mother (her father died of TB) and at 7 yoa had to find food at the market while her mother worked during the Nazi occupation. That shaped her politically.

Depends on what you call excitement and change. Not all change is good you know. Have no idea what you mean about excitement.

I disagree, one's view point on economics changing is not the same as their ideological view of the situation changing.
Ill give an example.
the minimum wage, when I was younger, i believe it should just be raised, point black period. Now, i think it should be phased in over a set period of time. How I came to my conclusion changed, but not the conclusion itself.
The first President I voted for was Nixon. I got even more conservative as I got older because I know the federal government is too big and wasteful and I'm big on personal responsibility and law and order. The President swears to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution so he should be hit on the head with it when he decides to ignore it.
I did vote for Bill Clinton once. That was after GHW Bush lied about "Read my lips, no new taxes." It's right up there with, "If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan" for the Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire Award.
Less Impact: "I did not have sexual relations with that woman." While a big lie, it impacted only one person and she acted like it did bother her, so I don't care.
So who did? I heard that saying at least 20 years ago. Never knew who said it.
