If you had been a rightist or a leftist, then later on changed to the other side, why, and how was the process?

Discuss.
In my younger days I didn't pay any attention to politics but, registered Democrat

When I was in Viet Nam and Johnson stopped the bombing, we started getting bombed everyday, I said I would NEVER vote for a dem again.

As I got older I started to get more interested in politics found out I am a conservative, and proud of it.

That's my Dad as well (although he's in his 70s now). He went from liberal to conservative to liberal again. Did no renew his NRA membership after having it for 50 years because of how amoral he saw the organization trending.

Do you mean when you had to start actually paying more for what you got rather then getting it for less money out of your own pocket?

Yep, you are a liberal. Gimme, gimme gimme!

It makes sense if you think about it in retrospect. In your 20's, most people have a rebellious side, like they can change the world. They think it's the "establishment" that is blocking "progress". Many teenagers think their parents are old-fashioned. The thinking goes... So, if mom & dad are conservative, then thats old fashioned. They don't know how the world is now. Our generation knows best. And, let's face it, conservatism is a difficult sell to young people.

But, you start to see the world differently when you actually get real life experience. If you pay taxes then thats a start. If you think that each person should have "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness". then you start appreciating conservative values.
It's funny how most people respect the founding fathers when they are asked about it. Its clear that most of the great aspects that our country was built on were conservative principles. Notice how liberals always lose an argument when it comes to this?

If someone is starving, it is better to teach a man to fish than give him a fish. Conservatives know this, (but don't always practice it.) Libs just want to give them a fish so they (the poor) will go away. Or, at least, the liberal will feel better about helping those less fortunate.

The libs tend to be jealous of the rich... unless they are rich themselves. Then they may remain a libereal (again for the same reasons) They don't want those pesky poor (or middle class) bothering them.

I've experienced real life for years now. It's only made me more of a liberal.

And yet conservatives make up a small percentage of actual teachers.
