Interesting. A version of the "public option" that is popular with Democrats in the House of Representatives is one based on the Medicare model. But Republicans appear to be united (they are, after all, the Party of No) in their opposition to include this additional choice for their constituents. Meanwhile,
A new study (http://weiner.house.gov/news_display.aspx?id=1364 - broken link) by Representative Anthony Weiner (D – Queens & Brooklyn), member of the Health Subcommittee and Co-Chair of the Caucus on the Middle Class, revealed that 151 members of the House and Senate currently receive government-funded, government-administered, single-payer health care - Medicare.

On the list of recipients are 55 Republicans who have steadfastly opposed other Americans getting the public option, like the one they have chosen.

And who are these Republicans?

why don't americans just demand the same plan that all of our representatives have if they want to enact "a plan"? after all, they work for us, not the other way around!

i can tell you the answer. they don't want a plan, they want a mandatory health insurance tax! demand that your representatives give you the same plan that they get. if it works for them, let it work for the rest of us.

Are you willing to get the same job they get? If so, when have you applied?

let's all work for the government and that should be a plan! i am sure that most americans would gladly take their jobs because the government is trying to ensure its own job security at the expense of the private sector. (of course that cannot play out long-term so their job security is disappearing as well). i see that there are going to be layoffs in philadelphia because they had to cut their budget due to lack of income. expect that to be played out around the country, more so next year!

Actually, Dean Heller (R-NV) offered an amendment to the bill that would have required all members of Congress to be covered under the proposed public option plan being debated. This amendment was killed in commitee by Pelosi.

Actually, a similar amendment was offered by Republicans in the Senate Finance Committee, which required all Congressmen and their staff to be covered by the healthcare bill. Live, and on television, the Democrats unanimously voted the amendment down. With Baucus himself laughing and ridiculing the amendment....sad and scary.

Both parties are corrupt.
There are very few people in Congress looking out for the average American worker, let alone any looking out for the poor in this country.

Republicans are just more upfront about their greed.

Are you suggesting that none of these representatives paid Medicare taxes or premiums? Proof please. Otherwise this thread is crap. You pay into the system, you get the benefit. It's really that simple. But before you try to compare the two, you should first read up on the Medicare Trust Fund. Then, provide us some sort of proof that a similar trust fund will be set up and "public option" taxes will be taken from your paycheck in order to fund the Public Option. Otherwise, you and your liberal flunkies are comparing apples to oranges.

Your govt representatives use the same health care system that the public uses. Don't you get that? The only difference is that they have a buffet table of options where they can pick and choose, blend options from BCBS etc, at a FRACTION of what you're paying. Because they are govt employees does NOT mean they use govt doctors, nor are they a part of a govt-run medical system. Now with the military, that's another story. Do some research. Private insurance is good enough for your reps but not for you. They demonize the very industry they frequent in order to convince you it isn't good, all the while taking deals in the back door. Educate yourself.
