- US military bases around the world are largely remnants of WW2 and the Cold War.
- despite leftist protests - most nations are unhappy when the US closes a local base or cuts back on spending - they like that yankee dollar
- most nations want trade with the US
- the US is better than most other nations at creating wealth and leveraging an investment dollar - US growth since Independence has largely been funded by foreign investors who saw better opportunities investing in the US vs home
- as it has always been - the military (of any country) is largely used to protect strategic interests - trade routes & resources
- the US provides a security blanket for it's allies
- no way I want to be enemies with a country that can drop a smart bomb and kill me with no warning before I can finish this sentan
- unfortunately -sometimes in their superpower role the US makes bad decisions, implements poorly, and/or doesn't understand the local mindset
I don't know the answer to your question, but find it to be a very good question. I have wondered the same thing many times for many years.
I also wonder why we are sending money everywhere when we are in debt up to our necks. Makes absolutely no sense. It is like someone who has financial problems trying to give money to everybody in the neighborhood. It is a little hard to give money to someone or some nation when you are already out of money yourself. What are they thinking?
I bet you could take a few housewives who have to live on a budget and fix the national financial problems. First tighten the apron strings and don't allow any unnecessary spending. I don't own a cell phone, but the taxes I pay are used to buy cell phones for people on welfare?? I hate to tell you this, but cell phones are not going to feed or clothe anyone. They don't give shelter either.
are we just the worlds police or are we one of the stupidest nations to ever exist..
enlighten please
It's called predatory capitalism. Read the book "Hoodwinked" by John Perkins if you want to know why we "care" so much about other countries (unless of course, they are poor African countries that we cannot exploit economically).
Very enlightening.
