It is mentioned in the article.

More to the point......why make the title of this thread, "Hating gays is more important than helping the needy" when my point is that the Catholic Church has not institutionalized any hatred of gays into their tenets or policies. If you are looking for a church with a real hatred of gays, the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka KS is the place to go.

"Fearful that they could be forced, among other things, to extend employee benefits to same-sex married couples, church officials said they would have no choice but to abandon their contracts with the city."

It really doesn't matter what the city decided to do that was in opposition to the values of the church, DC has decided to go in a direction knowing this organization will not join them. It's their choice to redefine marriage, and they will have to deal with the repercussions of their choice.

If the Catholic Church continues to push their political agenda; then they should lose their tax exempt status and pay up or shut up!

They may not have hatred indoctrinated in their scriptures, but they show outright indifference and really go out of their way to push a political agenda that is unfair to gay americans who pay their taxes and raise their families. These families do so without the benefits and safety net that hetro families automatically receive when they marry through the State. this is not the dark ages. the catholic church no longer controls an empire and should stay out of State business.

If catholic charities is receiving 35% of its funding from DC, then it has no right to discriminate against gay citizens. where do all of the church's coffers go to anyway? why doesn't it provide 100% of its services? since it pays no taxes, i would think that they would have a lot more funds to go around for this kind of thing. the church doesn't mind ponying up $$ to combat gay rights causes, but will deny poor ppl these services with $$ that could be used for the poor folk.

denying healthcare to anyone is a very un-christian thing to do. the catholic church is very hateful.
