Remember, before you point fingers at the powers-that-be, you drive and heat your homes with inexpensive fuel and have available to buy enormous quantities of endless clothing and other products at inexpensive prices because of our interference in other places.

I live in a city of around 200,000 south of Atlanta. We have a tent city, where families are living, not just lone guys down on their luck or drug/alcohol addicted. In those families, there are children. Why do we have this happening in our own country, and yet we still send aid overseas. We should take care of our own first!

It is called "Economic Imperialism"
At times the White House trots out the story that the US is there to help protect the people of the country which they are treading on. In the past a presence has been of Military significance - having a strategic airbase in an important region. Such as Clark Airbase in the Philippines and Subic - the naval base.
(The US was forced to leave however as its interference was no longer requires by the Philippines in the early 1990s - change of Government perspective there)

Most often though the US has pursued Economic Imperialism - as in Iraq and Iran when it eyed the Oil reserves of the countries. Even when the natural resources of a foreign country may not be significant the US has pursued the benefits of Trade alliances. And to protect investments of US Companies having a US military presence helps.

I don't know the particulars of that situation, but I believe it has a lot to do with factories and other jobs going to third-world countries so the owners can get bigger profits and live in their mansions.

I guess they don't know their history, because sooner or later, the people in the tent cities are going to be paying them a call on their marble doorsteps.

Really then how expensive were the clothes in the 40's 50's and 60's when everything was made here. :-) As far as heating your home we have gotten oil from where ever we needed it we just have a larger demand but I'm sure if we really look at it we could find another place to get oil other then crazy third world places. After all mobil, shell etc are oil companies they are not the United states government and or the miltary. But it seems often we put the business name to mean they are the root of our freedom of which is from the constitution.

Because the United Nations looks directly at U.S. anytime it wants something complex handled in the world. All of the other pansies turn and run, or contribute some small obligatory faction of "support" warriors with all kinds of conditions attached. If not the U.S., then whom?
