From all the insults hurled at the south by northern liberals, New York must surely be in the south, otherwise, they would not have shot down gay marriage, right?
Or maybe there are a lot more people than just southern conservatives that are against it. Maine just overturned it, and last time I looked at a map, it was not in the south.
Funny thing is, I'm a life long southerner currently living in TX, Christian fiscal conservative, and I have no problem with gay marriage. Or legalizing marijuana for that matter.

The OP is obviously very sensitive about this issue. My suggestion is that he/she ignore the anti-Southerner comments. There will always be people who see things differently than you do.

Hey, We go to the south all the time and like it. I do not like, however, the northeast and west coast, as the people are not nearly as friendly as the south or midwest. Let's keep the libs on the coasts and away from the rest of the population.

Hmmmm I looked at that list and I see states like, Arizona, New Mexico, California, and Hawaii near the bottom also.
So this tells me that intelligence has very little to do with North vs. ex-Confederate states OR red state vs. blue state.
Look at your list again. What do the states at the very top have in common with each other? What do the states at the very bottom have in common with each other?
I already know the answer and it is quite obvious. But of course we have to be politically correct and act as if this one obvious factor doesn't exist.
Oh it has nothing to do with the south. It has everything to do with the fact that the minority of people are trying to impose their will over the majority.
Just like the masses of uninsured, they still don't outweigh the insured despite what you may have heard. And the majority of people are against gay marriage despite what some people will tell you.

The south has been polluted by New Yorkers. Florida used to be a nice place; now it is New York and New Jersey (south) and is a dump. The only semblence of what Florida used to be like is in the panhandle and northern Florida.
It reminds me of that old Paul Revere and the Raider's song "Kicks Keep Get'in Harder to Find".

Transport New York to the south, and you will get New York south. It is not the region, it is you.
