Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Thursday rebuked the AARP for opposing his amendment to rollback many of the Medicare changes Democrats included in their healthcare bill.
"I call on seniors to cut up their AARP cards and send them back to them!"
They should cut them up. AARP interest is in making money no matter what. If they got to lie just like the Healthcare bill supporters in Congress, they will cause there's money to be made off of it.
Greedy crooks!!!!!!

I dropped my membership six months ago. Wrote a letter and let them know why.
The Medicare cuts are primarily in the Advantage plan process. The Govt pays subsidies to private insurers to offer plans that meet a coverage level at least as comprehensive as Medicare. Many companies take advantage of that. The govt subsidy over compensates the ins. co. for the plan Medicare eligible people choose. Some, actually most, of those ins. cos. keep the subsidy and the Soc Sec recipient's $96/mnth. Making huge profits from the venture. Some of those ins. cos. are a little more responsible, and return the $96 to the Soc Sec recipient, yet still makes a large profit on the policy. Basically, it is well know that there are huge amounts of over payments to the ins. cos. That is where the bulk of the proposed Medicare cuts are to occur. Why do you think the ins. cos. are so opposed to reform in this area? Duh! Why do you think the Repubs, not just McCain, are so opposed to reform in this area? Duh! When you consider the number of people Medicare eligible, I would not be surprised if 400-500 billion could be cut out of just this portion of Medicare. And these cuts done without any degradation of the coverage.

AARP has killed a lot of trees trying to get me to rejoin after my Year 50 when I was a member for 1 year. I suggest that the next time you are solicited by them, to join AARP, you write on their membership form exactly what you think of the sellouts and mail it back to them.
Whether someone tears up there AARP card or not is up to them. They are just an advocacy group trying to look out for seniors and provide them lower cost avenues. Yes, they are partnered with United Health, a private Ins. Co., that provides Advantage plans. But, that is beside the point of Medicare reform. I suspect most of you are not Medicare eligible and not familiar with the program. I know there are a great number who are eligible, and still not understanding the program. AARP is trying to help them understand it. When someone goes on Soc Sec, the are automatically in Medicare, which is a public ins. plan. They automatically have a premium deducted from their SS check each month. That premium is currently at $96.40. There is no option there, that will happen to each and every one of those people. To provide choices for those people, Congress set up the Advantage plan process that opens private ins. cos. access to compete for these people that must buy ins. customers. This Advantage process was primarily supported and enacted by Repubs with some Dem support as well. The subsidy structure was so attractive to private cos, that most got in. They saw it as a huge cash cow, and still do. The fact that some of those cos. can provide the ins. coverage and not keep the premium, can mean only one thing. The subsidy more than adequately compensates them for the coverage they provide. That means there are huge over payments. There are still millions of people selecting plans that keep the excress premium as well as the subsidy, I don't know why, I can only presume that they don't realize there are better options. I not so sure that AARP does a very good job at informing them either. But basically this is a Public/Private structure that the private cos and the Repubs, do not want cleaned up. Can anyone explain that to me?
