You see that is the Republican calculus, policy doesn't matter, just election victories (or loses for that matter).
I wouldn't care if after 2010 the damned Congress was in a dead tie as long as there is significant reform of the healthcare system.
yea but neither the house nor the senate bill is reform in the true sense of the word. It's a sell-out crap bill that doesn't even cover all the uninsured and will effectively bankrupt the country even more (if that's even possible at this point).
Don't they still have to vote for the informally-compromised bill (steps 3 & 4 of From a bill to a law - Health care- msnbc.com)? The new Dem approach only seems to avoid possible Rep filibuster to meet the Feb deadline.
Dem House leader + Dem Senate leader + WH will reconcile the two bills and then put up for vote. That would be Reid, Pelosi and Obama.
No committees, no public hearings, no Repubs invited.
The Dems intend to bypass traditional procecures so that Obama can announce a signed bill at the next State of the Union address.
No snippets since this is an AP article.
Early congratulations Democrats and other Obama followers, you have your healthcare reform now and the few Republicans that hold elected office will be intentionally left out.

Well... they still have to get Congressman Stupak onboard.
That means no federal funding of abortion.
Ben Nelson sold out will the Stupak 40 stand fast?
No fear, these cheap, undemocratic tactics will be brought front and center by the GOP to remind the electorate how scuzzy Democrats are. If I were a liberal, i'd be scared schitless that Independents are headed towards the exit door in droves. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.
I'd perfer it if they aimed for in-between the ears.

Even if the reconciliation option is taken we should not expect politicians to look out for the public interest if the public does not exert any pressure and make some noise.
