Clift: Obama's Stealth Success in Congress - Eleanor Clift - Newsweek.com

A study finds Barack Obama has the highest legislative success rate of any president in recent history.

But to Republicans who joke Obama has done nothing, and to Obama's liberal critics who vent about the same, a study done by Congressional Quarterly suggests they are both wrong. CQ rates Obama higher than any president in the last five decades in working his will on Capitol Hill, surpassing even the fabled Lyndon Johnson. Obama's success rate in the House and Senate on votes where he staked out a clear position was 96.7 percent, beating previous record-holder Johnson's 93 percent in 1965.

I'd expect nothing less. Obama is a super hero. Everything he touches turns to gold.
He's won more accolades and even the Nobel Peace prize with all that he has accomplished in this past year. Just imagine what next year will bring....

"His success was 96.7 percent on all the votes where we said he had a clear position in both the House and the Senate. That's an extraordinary number," Cranford says.

The previous high scores were held by Lyndon Johnson in 1965, with 93 percent, and Dwight Eisenhower, who scored 89 percent in 1953. Cranford notes that George W. Bush's score hit the high 80s in 2001, the year of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. But Obama surpassed them all, Cranford says.

Newsweek? The same same Newsweek who's editor proclaimed Obama a god?
Anything they put out is highly suspect.

Hmm... So, if you don't like the message, attack the messenger?

The first part of the article puts it perfectly, and only amplifies what I've been saying all year, addressing the contradictory nature of these attacks:

Quote:
The Republican riff on President Obama's first year is that he hasn't accomplished anything, that he's all hat and no cattle, to borrow a phrase from the Bush years. At the same time, conservatives yowl that all the socialistic programs and policies he's put in place are destroying the country. Which is it? He can't be both unaccomplished and accomplishing his nefarious agenda at the same time. It's like that old Borscht Belt joke where one elderly lady complains about how awful the food is and her friend responds, "Yes, and the portions are too small."

Well, when you're shaking down your opponents, stuffing your pockets with special interest money, paying off congressmen, running those midnight, closed door transparency meetings, and knee capping the country ala Tony Soprano, what else do you expect?

I am not sure Republicans say that Obama has not accomplished anything.

I see on City Data quite a bit of lament that he has done too much.

I certainly think he has done too much.

Being successful in passing bad law is not and indicator of quality in my book

Yes, the same... the article even said Obama fixed the financial crisis, cured HIV, ended world hunger, mandated world peace, cured world poverty, and ruled the Heavens with angels at his feet... it must be true, Newsweek said so...
