A friend of mine was in Vanderbilt Hospital for three days in the burn unit and the medical bill is 80,000 dollars and this person has no medical insurance. Now I see why everyone needs health insurance without question. And this friend's wife was in and out as a out patient and her bill is 20,000.
John
I feel bad for your friend.......
but he could have bought health ins. for him and his wife for around $200.00 a month and if they had children about $450.00 a month.
People need to get there priorities in order...I am sorry.
The problem is that those who have insurance simply don't care and don't think it could ever happen to them!
BS. I have insurance now. Didnt always have it. Didnt have it the only time in my life I needed surgery. I didnt ask anyone else to pay my bill. I know what its like to have it and be without it. I still feel its my place to provide for me.
wow, some people are so holier than thou......Have you walked in this guys shoes? No you haven`t. But if you ever do, I`m sure you wouldn`t have such a self-rightious attitude about it.
This friend lost his house and the contents because of fire. They didn't even have house insurance.
Rental insurance can start at about $5/month. If he was so poor he couldn't "afford" $5/mo, he would've qualified for Medicaid. 5 kids? Yep, our government awards such procreation efforts.
BTW - we don't have health insurance. I "can't afford" $900/mo - how much it would cost us. I do have renter's insurance with a medical addition - $25/mo, $1000 deductible, $50k for personal property and $500k for medical coverage. If he can prove he was too poor to afford $25/mo, chances are the hospital will have a program for him - either a charity or a major discount, picked up by the taxpayers (which is what nationalized health care is, btw - paid for by the taxpayers).
Real poor. The house was more a shack then a home.
Then he should've applied for Medicaid. I believe the federal program allows a family of 7 to make more than $40k a year and still qualify - at least for the children. If any of those 5 children are in school, they would've gotten inundated with literature for it and applications at the beginning of each school year.
Real poor. The house was more a shack then a home.
If they are poor, wouldn't they qualify for medicaid? I think you can still get medicaid which retroactively pays your bills... it wouldn't hurt to ask considering they have kids...
