Anyone still want to defend the war? I would guess some will.
Bull!
Months, huh? Let's see: Bush took office in late January. Because the Gore team had not allowed the transition team to do all that is normally part of the process, they were behind. Bush was strategizing on how to handle the terrorist problem, saying at one point, he was "tired of [the U.S.] swatting flies", and wanted to take a more pro-active approach to terrorism. Nothing had been done about the Cole bombing (except a "finger wagging" by the Clinton administration).
So, if plans to invade Iraq were "finalized" months before 9-11, there must not have been a lot of planning. This is why this statement is doubful. By 9-11, Bush had been in office only about 7 months. And given the time to set up your administration, confirmation of cabinet, etc., there wasn't a lot of time to plan a major military operation like the invasion of Iraq. "Months in advance"? I doubt it.
This is just another smear campaign against the former president.
News flash Sherlock Homes.. The US has plans to probably invade every country on the planet.. it is the job of the Pentagon to plan for such actions in the event they are needed.
p.s. your link is SIX years old, and has been disputed NUMEROUS times and simply WRONG..

"It should be the policy of the United States to support efforts to remove the regime headed by Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq and to promote the emergence of a democratic government to replace that regime."

Sorry, but most Americans are smarter than that.
Why would you (naively) think that Bush had to be in office to have plans to invade Iraq initiated....

So why did Bushy try to make it sound like we had to invade Iraq because of 9/11 ????????????????????????????????????
9/11 was just so CONVENIENT for the planners of the Iraqi invasion.....wasn't it?
You'd think with all that planning it would have gone much better.
