I never understood why people accept state restrictions but not federal restrictions?
I never understood why people end statements with question marks...
Anyway, the federal government was designed to be very small and limited in power. States can do virtually whatever they want, as long as it's legal within the framework of their own founding documents, and doesn't violate the rights of the people under the U.S. Constitution.

You said it yourself - STATE level.
The feds are usurping the power that rightfully belongs to the states with legislation like this. It's been happening so much for most of the last century that a lot of people have completely lost touch with what the role of the federal government is supposed to be. Couple that with the entitlement complex and "trophies for losing" mentality that the last couple of generations were raised with, and you get what we have now - people like you saying that the feds doing this is all hunky dory, and not understanding why people like me are concerned and upset.
Where were the Tea Party folks when everyone who drives was required by law to purchase liability auto insurance? The same people who keep complaining about healthcare reform and buying insurance really will need it one day.
After looking at the images of the greasy, fat Tea Party protesters it makes one wonder just how many Twinkies, Ding Dongs, double chili cheeseburgers, Coke, Cheetos and Doritos it took to get those people that obese? That diabetes ridden crowd is a like a massive heart attack waiting to happen.
The difference here, genius, is that people are not forced to buy cars, therefore, need not worry about car insurance. The purchase of healthcare is mandated simply because you live and breathe. There are alternatives to cars and many people utilize them. Not so with the new healthcare mandate. If you don't buy, you are punished through fines. Not so if you don't buy a car.
What do you care what sort of food people put into their stomachs? Worry about your own back yard. I don't want the govt telling me what I can and can't eat. One size does not fit all, whether it be healthcare or anything else. WHy should I be forced to purchase an "approved govt healthcare plan" that would include services I won't use, such as prenatal care and such? Why should I be punished because I drink soda if I am an active athelete and therefore have a high metabolism?
You are only required to buy auto insurance if you drive a vehicle. You are required to buy HC insurance if you are alive. Your options are, don't drive a car, and don't be alive..
...and don't ever vote for a socialist again...
Typical health care attitude from the right... Just like their admiration and encouragement of people to go to a Emergency room and then say they cannot pay for their treatment. Wierd how it is OK for the tax payer to pick up the Emergency room bill but not pay for a organised health system for America. Again the words selfish, self centred and Hypocrite comes to mind
If we are already paying for people then why go to all this trouble?
And who says the taxpayer picks up the cost for E.R. visits? When did this happen?
I never understood why people end statements with question marks...
It's called expressive writing. Since you are not present to hear an inflection in the inquisitive statement that invites a response, the ? tips you off... or doesn't, as the case may be.

Thank you Justice Swagger. Ya do know that it's a bit more complicated than that though, no? Couple hundred years of jurisprudence, precedent, and interpretation kinda messes up that neat little framework.

Oh. So freedom is "less lost" if restricted at the state level than if restricted at the federal level. Got ya.

Nope, don't understand. Could care less about "states rights" actually. Dare I say it: Who gives a damn except state politicians and those stuck in the provicial mentality of the 1700s?

Ah yes, you can't be truthful about what sort of people attended the protests (have you ever even been to one?), so you resort to your usual personal, ignorant attacks that aren't even close to the truth. I know, you'll pull up photos that you've handpicked to show the most overweight in the group. Which of course won't be close to a real representation of the attendees. But hey, don't want to let facts get in the way of you Alinsky attacks.
Here's a news flash - nobody has to buy car insurance just for being alive.
Never heard this outrage when everyone is forced to pay house taxes, inome tax, petrol tax. alcohol tax etc. Extremely Selective outrage maybe....lol
House tax - only necessary if you own a home, and those are local taxes.
Income tax - there WAS outrage when that was being discussed. But in any case, you are only taxed if you have an income.
Gas tax - see above.
Alcohol tax - ditto.
Are you seeing a trend here? Those are only taxed IF you participate in those particular endeavors, or if you buy certain products. Health Care tax is EVERYONE.
