It's not a PIT BULL thing people....it's a DOG thing. ALL dogs (yes, even little yippie dogs) have the ability and the means to do damage. I've owned multiple pit bulls over the years and have never had a single problem with them. My neighbor across the street has 3 of them, I have one and the neighbor on the other side of me has 2. They're wonderful dogs.

Oh, and I wish I could find the news article in which someone shot and killed a Corgi because it attacked their child...and then the news reported it as a pit bull attack. Ever wonder why most articles NEVER put up a picture of the dog in question? Probably because most people would realize it wasn't in fact a pit bull.
No one has said that golden retrievers and corgis never attack or bite people. I am sure they do. You are missing the point. If you can refute that most viscious and fatal attacks are not committed by pit bulls, please do so.

I love the Stranger, and it's actually one of the things I miss about Seattle (although the weather, not so much)!

All these "it's not the breed!" arguments kinda remind me of the same ones re: "guns don't kill people", etc., except in this case the "guns" have legs and a mind of their own...

If a dog, regardless of breed, is attacking... a well placed gunshot wound should stop the attack.

Of course.

Considering that 'pit bulls' are not even a recognized breed here in the US (Through the UKC you can have American Pit Bull Terriers, but they bear no resemblance to the 'gotti' type pits that are bred by thugs here in the US) and a number of breeds are consistently confused with being a 'pit bull'. Boxers, Corgis, bull terriers, bulldogs, even a Papillon in one case (although I do realize that was a bit of a stretch... but a Papillon WAS mistaken for a pit bull and mased by a New York Police Officer a few years back).

If you can't identify WHAT a pit bull is, how can you attribute attacks to them?
Pet Pitbull - Find the Pit Bull

You can't blame things on a 'breed' that technically doesn't exist. You can say 'pit bull TYPE' dogs are involved in the most attacks, but that includes more than 25 different breeds....so who do we ban? All dogs that look even remotely like pits? My best friend has a beagle/lab cross that looks just like my pit bull. Anybody out there would mistake her for a pit...but she was born out of an accidental breeding of a purebred beagle and purebred lab....no pit at all, with the papers to prove it.

It just seems silly to me to vilify an entire type of dog based on assumption and negative press.

Let's see, which one's the "pitbull"....(and more important, which one would you worry about)?! You're right that's really a tough call.

Uhhh......how can you have one if they don't exist?

I'm sure that in the case of serious injury or fatal attacks, the authorities go to some lengths to check on the breed or ancestry of the dog. All poodle and yorkie related deaths will surely make the headlines.

Sorry, your story doesn't hold water.
