I saw a clip of yesterday's protest in Phoenix against AZ's new law. One of the protesters held a sign that read "We are the majority." The "we" being hispanics.

Is such a sign and sentiment racist?

I feel that it is, because it assumes that race should be a determining factor in making law.

You're assuming that the 'we' refers to Hispanics. It might refer to illegals. In which case it is not racist--just disturbing that illegals purport to be able to dictate state law.

The "we" actually meant legal latino Americans.

The US Census disagrees with them.

According to the 2005-2007 American Community Survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, White Americans made up 59.6% of Arizona's population. Hispanics and Latinons (of any race) made up 29.0% of Arizona's population [27].

Legal latinos are the majority of overall latinos...In simpler terms, there are more legals than there are illegals.

Perhaps, but they are not the majority. I was simply pointing that out.
