Iran and ISIS are enemies, due to conflicting branches of Islam, as well as competing "visions" of a Muslim caliphate in the middle east.
Why not let them just kill each other and achieve many of our political goals in doing so? Of course, Obama giving his new friends, the Iranians, the bomb creates a relative imbalance. However, once the Iranians produce a bomb, I am sure that other entities in the middle east (ISIS and the Saudis) will secure such weapons shortly after, creating a scenario for a nuclear holocaust there.
Iran won't get involved with the terrorists in Iraq and Syria. They would rather support the terrorists in Yemen as then Iran would control the approaches the Straits of Hormuz. Better strategic move on their part. The Iraq thing is something they can deal with later. However, they are taking the stance that the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
They *are* letting them kill each other. They want a perpetual war and check/balance on each other. Their problem is that if they let it go, one side will win and there will no longer be a check/balance.
I wish we could just GTF out of the middle east, I mean just clear out.
Unfortunately they are sitting on all the damn oil and we are like oil dependent junkies.
I'm not one of these anti-oil kooks out there, I'm just more of a realist. If the largest middle east export was falafels, I don't think we'd have anyone over there.
Yeah... to answer the OP... it would be nice to arm them up, both side, and just let them go to work on each other.
Unfortunately the world doesn't work that way and things are much more grayer in real life, what does one do with all of the "collateral" damage, such as women and children, children who are innocent.
These question aren't easily answered with "lets make the middle east a giant parking lot" via a few nukes.... LOL
I see no equivalency between ISIS and those fighting it. I'd side with Syria and Iran over ISIS "snack bar" fanatics. The people and governments of Syria and Iran are more westernized, more secular, and less god driven. I'd rather the Middle East "winner" was someone who is politically driven and not you-disrespected-my-god driven.
Globally, America should mind its own business.
You dont see china, russia etc. invading us to meddle in our internal affairs.
