Default Public transportation in Southern Maine

Hello, I'll be moving to Southern Maine next month and I'm trying to find the best and most convenient place to get a house. I know there's about 1hour drive between Portland and Kittery and I was wondering if there's any public transportation between these two cities. I checked online and it seems like most companies around Portland don't go south of Biddeford. I thought the train would be great but it goes inland around Kittery into NH.
Any idea? Or are we stuck with the car?
Thank you for your input.

Kittery is about 40 minutes from Portland. I know Amtrak will get you to Dover, NH. From there you could take the bus (either Wildcat Transit or Coast) into Portsmouth (Portsmouth and Kittery are side by side.) After that you'd have to walk or take a cab. That is the only way I know of to pull it off without a car.
