Who knows. Or better yet, who cares?

If you're looking for the posh, country-club lifestyle, you shouldn't be looking in Portland. Generally, people here don't really tend to care about that. Who people are and what they believe in is more important than how much money they make or what their house is worth.

I believe it is Dunthorpe, just north of LO. In any event, I agree with the notion that Portland, and Oregon in general, is not really geared towards "poshness" in the sense of having neighborhoods that are filthy rich - private heliopads or jet airplane landing strips, multiple guest houses, separate gardener's quarters, chauffeur's quarters, etc., etc.

No, if you are looking for another Hampton's or Martha's Vineyard, you are going to have to look further north or much further south.

When you speak of "family oriented", what do you mean?

In other words, what kind of life do you want your kids to experience? Friends down the street kind of life, or friends meeting up at the country club or on the ski slopes kind of life?

lots care or there wouldnt be mansions and expensive homes all the while t here is homeless and poverty around. If they didnt care about wealth, they would stop at the average yearly wage of about 54000k and then give t he rest away to those living on the streets. they would all drive smart cars and ride bikes and buy cars for all t he rest of the people who dont have them. of course they care, of course their are people who care about what t hey make, the size of their homes and the clothes they wear and the friends they associate with. or there would be no divisions of homes and prices and the like.

Lake Oswego is the nicest inner suburb for sure, but there are upscale neighborhoods in almost every section of the metro area. Part of it depends on your definition of "posh". I'd say the most "posh" areas are in Lake Oswego on the lake itself, and several areas up in the West Hills.

If you are asking the question just out of curiosity, then I would go to a real estate website like Redfin and search the upper end houses for sale. That will give you some idea of where the higher end properties are clustered.

If you are asking because you want to live at or near a posh area, I would start with considering what items are important for you to have in closer proximity (downtown, jobs, transit, airport, schools, beach, mountains, wine country, different types of shopping or restaurants, other countryside, friends, etc.) and then go from there.

For us, we needed to move this past year, and we wanted to live in a very nice but not quite posh area. We weighed a lot of factors and ended up focusing on the south to southwest suburbs of West Linn, Tualatin, Lake Oswego, and Tigard/Bull Mountain. We ended up settling on the southwest section of Tualatin and we love it, it's great for us.

Good luck on your search/quest.
