Hi all. My goal is to move to Portland in about a year. I am still wondering what neighborhood/area I should live in. My price range is 700-800. I will be looking for an apartment to start with. I want to live somewhere that will give me a true Portland experience... I don't want to live in the 'burbs. I've heard good things about the SE. I'm not going to be too picky at first. Just want somewhere safe and affordable.

No one can predict what rents will be like in a year and many neighborhoods meet the general description of "a Portland experience". When the time for a move is closer and you have specific needs get back to us.

You should be able to find something pretty decent for that price. Portland is much cheaper than other west coast cities for renters.

Then, as many posters say, there is the job issue. You didn't mention needing work, but if you do, you'll want to take location into consideration.

Who knows what anything will be like in a year. Save your money!
