Oregon has a "hidden" sales tax.It was sneaked thru under prop. 60 or 61, some 60-number. The sales tax is levied on the businesses, and when you buy from them, they carry it onto you. Yeah, we have a "hidden sales tax." But you pay it every time you buy something.KA-CHING! You buy, you get to pay the sales tax.--not the businesses.

Vancouver, obviously.

Law of nature: in case of a tie, Vancouver always beats Little Beirut 2-to-1.

Eh?? Oregon businesses pay tax based on their profits. Washington, unlike many other states, does not have an income tax. Washington's Business & Occupations tax is calculated on the gross income from activities. This means there are no deductions from the B&O tax for labor, materials, taxes, or other costs of doing business. There is an inventory tax in Oregon that may be county or city based (its been years since I had to think about that). That is the reason why more businesses located along the Columbia River locate in Oregon rather than Washington.

Clark County WA residents often buy in Oregon to avoid WA sales tax, the only time a seller is obligated to collect the tax is if they deliver the purchase in WA or, maybe, the item is bought on line and delivered in WA. HOWEVER the WA resident is obligated to pay the sales tax.. but rarely do.
